Mandarake Kyoto is on 4F of the Takashiyama Department Store. It can be a little difficult to find which is why I'm starting my review with that. We couldn't locate it at first, all the shops listed within the department store floor guide are written in Japanese, and while I can understand a little that was just too much information for me to be able to sift through, Google maps directions were even worse, rather than just tell us to go to 4F, it was saying things like "take the escalator down to B1, walk south for 40m, it's on your right" all wrong. The store itself is very much in keeping with Kyoto. It specialises in really old, classic retro merchandise, there's so many vintage toys, books, signs, LaserDisc, magazines and the like. The place is a maze of cabinets and shelves packed full of all sorts of amazing things so you'll find yourself hunting around for a good long while. The female staff who have helped me was very friendly and easy to talk with when I needed help. I had a very pleasant interaction and awesome customer service when I was buying from this store. The only downside was that they wouldn’t allow you to touch the stuff behind the cabinets until you’re ready and willing to purchase. I just wanted to look at some Gundam Converge figures that were stacked laying down and on top of each other which made it difficult to get a good look at the front of the box.
