“Tax Free” Beware

Heads up for tourists: This Adidas store is not signed up with the government for tax free processing and uses a 3rd party tax refund company (PieVAT), which means: after you pay full price at the store you walk out to another establishment to process your tax refund you must download their app and register with your email for their service you opt into their marketing emails they ask you to select a currency to which you want to receive the refund. Here’s the catch: I use a US card with no international fees and pay in Yen, however, the refund payout is a separate transaction, so I have to choose USD. In the process, they take a margin from the exchange of currency the tax refund must be done the same day of purchase, and you immediately lose your ability to return the item

I’ve been here for a good while now purchasing tax free left and right; every place I’ve bought from just scans your passport and charges you less on the spot. This is the first time I’m encountering this headache.

When I gave a weak smile and said “this is kind of… inconvenient”, the employee told me “but it’s convenient for the stores!” 😅

This is store-specific, so find yourself an Adidas store that does not use this middleman...

I had a very disappointing experience at Adidas Brand Center RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK. I specifically asked for a new stock of the shoes I chose, and I trusted the staff to provide one. However, when I unpacked the shoes later, I was shocked to see that they had given me a display stock instead—with visible dirt on the sole, likely worn by multiple people. This is completely unacceptable, especially for a premium brand like Adidas. Customers deserve brand-new, unworn products when they request them. Very disappointed with the lack of transparency...

A female employee has discrimination on foreigners. When I was just wearing the tried clothes outside the fitting room, she directed let me pay.
