This could have been a very good experience if it wasn't for the boat pilot and his NON-paying, female non-guest. I was there when he arrived and invited his female guest aboard. I paid and boarded the boat - she did not. The pilot's guest sat with him at the front of the boat not leaving any room for anyone else (she placed here packages/bags in a way that discouraged anyone else sitting up front. Why is this a problem? Because that is where the really good seats are for viewing and taking pictures. Once we were underway he turned on the automated, prerecorded tour and then proceeded to provide the very same for his guest. The volume of the recording wasn't very loud and didn't need to be - EXCEPT - that their constant chatter throughout the ENTIRE ride (approx. 1 hour!) conflicted with hearing the prerecorded description. At one point the recording suggests asking the driver to point-out various sights and he was so engaged with his guest he was oblivious to the requests of his guests. The back of the boat was filled with 2 families and the rest of us were cramped in the middle trying to see around one another and take pictures. As a paying customer I don't recommend taking this tour. There are other tours along the canal/river who might be more respectful of...
Read moreWe had the opportunity to take the Canal Boat Tour while in Riga. Our canal boat, the Darling, took us on a wonderful ride on city canal out to the Daugava River and back through this historic center of Riga. The Darling was built in 1907 at the Berlin Engelbrecht Yacht Plant. Your relaxing ride of just short of an hour takes you on a journey of views that include the inspiring Opera house, the world-famous Riga Central market, and out to the river. From the Daugava you have a panoramic view of Riga’s historic Old Town, Soviet era buildings and the ultra-modern National Library of Latvia and the Swedbank office building that depicts a sailboat. We highly recommend this laid-back way to enjoy the sights of Riga. You will find the boats at Bastion Hill just down from...
Read moreWe booked a boat just for us. We came on time and the boat was already taken. The crew told me we have to wait for 25 min for the next one. I asked if they can give us a discount since they made a mistake. I could understand them talking to each other and the one not speaking English said no discount, so the other one said there was a mistake but then we can wait and he added there's gonna be more people on the boat.
Very annoying since we planned our day around this.
We opted out for a different company just next to this one, but for cheaper who told us we can get a boat in 10 min...
