Giving 2 stars bc the class itself was quite lovely—but unfortunately that was offset by an incredibly negative experience with the instructor Michael after class. I approached him and let him know I needed to pay for class. He points to a basket where people have left a few pesos. To which I respond, oops, do you accept card, I don’t have many pesos? Michael retorts, “Well how did you expect to pay for class?” Stunned, I reply, “All studios I’ve been to recently have accepted card”, I stand there trying to solve the problem by looking up nearby ATMs” until Michael turns to me and says, “just leave, im trying to keep good vibes” as if to say trying to solve a modern day problem is creating negative energy. Finally Michael says, “well I’ve never I had this problem in 12 years, so clearly it’s you!” Reflecting on the amount of pesos in the basket, I think the problem is likely that people are simply not paying. Finally, he admits to having PayPal, great, problem solved. Why couldn’t he have mentioned that initially instead of berating a first time student in front of the entire class?
This information should be more clear and available on Google, or at least in the Instagram bio, not buried in a few posts back on a second page. Cards should be an option, even if they’re not preferred. Many places in Mexico I have not expected to accept cards, like the artisans in the park or produce sellers on the street have offered the option when I’m low on efectivo. Imo there’s no excuse for going out of your way to try and make a person feel bad when they’re trying to do the right thing.
Once realizing the suggested donation, I was actually just shy of that amount in pesos, but the other three studios in the city charge significantly more than that amount, and so I assumed it wasn’t enough.
In the end, this studio may be a great deal and I appreciate donation studios that attempt to make clases accessible to all, but not at the expense of this kind of negative energy. I will not be returning, as I search for a yoga teacher that I can learn from energetically and spiritually and clearly Michael is not that...
Read moreI overall like the studio and really appreciate that it’s donation based. I went a few times already since I’ve moved into the neighborhood but this time I had a really negative interaction with the instructor that made me not want to go back.
I went to pay after class and realized I had forgotten my wallet. I apologized profusely and asked if I can transfer money or pay double next time since I attend regularly. The instructor was not at all understanding and went on complaining about foreigners (I live here) always doing this and made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
I understand I was at fault for forgetting my wallet, but at that point there was nothing I could do besides for transferring him money or paying next time. I even asked around for someone to lend me cash and couldn’t find anyone. When I asked if I can Venmo or Zelle, he replied “this is Mexico, we don’t have Zelle” and then after a few mins the he finally admitted that he has Zelle and I sent him the money there.
I understand it’s frustrating for the business, especially if this happens often, but shaming me for an honest mistake when I already felt terrible about it was not going to help resolve the issue. I feel like the situation could’ve been handled more delicately and for that reason I wouldn’t feel...
Read moreI liked this place! My only recommendations are to bring some sanitizing wipes if you don't have your own yoga mat, not sure if they clean them often, which is fine because it's super thoughtful they offer them for travelers. Also wear bug spray, I got brutalized by mosquitoes. Maybe they can burn citronella candles or diffuse oil by the open windows. Below I wrote earlier and they responded the schedule is posted so I really appreciated that!
I wish they could post a schedule of classes somewhere. It might be on Instagram but not all of us do that so it would be very nice and courteous to help us know the class schedule. Even posted on the door would be a step up from no info at all. Because also the phone # doesn't seem to be accurate! I asked a viejito standing outside, so let's...
