Visiting the Pottery Training Center in Bhaktapur was one of the most interesting parts of my trip. Here, pottery is not just something to put plants in – it’s a true craft. You can watch skilled artisans spin clay into beautiful shapes like it’s the easiest thing in the world, while you silently wonder how they managed to make a perfect vase in the time it takes you to make a lopsided bowl in art class.
Besides being a cool place to watch pottery being made, it’s also a great spot to pick up some souvenirs. I walked away proudly with a terracotta frog which now guards my shelf at home. There are lots of handmade pieces to choose from and the prices are very low – but this is Nepal, so bargaining is half the fun. Just smile, haggle a bit, and everyone ends up happy.
