My daughter and I had a wonderful experience with Bow's Journey. At first I wasn't sure as it was slightly more expensive than other tours, but it was definitely a more intimate and luxurious experience than what I imagined. It was well worth the difference in price.
Bow is funny and super knowledgable. The other passengers were friendly and pleasant. The boat is sleek and warm, and you are equally comfortable on the inside (lovely heat & clear windows) or outside of the cabin (plenty of alpaca blankets to keep cozy). Snacks and wine bar are freely available.
Another much appreciated touch - Captain Bow texted me personally when our original booking time wasn't going to work out. He offered a few new options, but our flight had been delayed and I wasn't sure how my 11 yr old was going to respond to jet lag. Bow had availability in 2 tour options, and was flexible with me to get back to him with our final booking time until I knew for sure which would be the best for us.
This was one of our favorite memories in our trip to Amsterdam. Thank you Bow!
*Also, in case you get confused with some Reddit recs like I did: Bow's Journey's is fka the original Captain Jack - but not the current Captain Jack w/ the pink shirts. So if you get a rec for Captain Jack,...

Read moreWe were staying at the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, and to our delight, the pick-up spot was so close that Captain Boudewijn (aka: Jack) personally greeted us in the lobby and walked us to the dock. The boat, Sophie, is a beautifully restored wooden vessel from 1911, now fully electrified. It’s intimate (max 12 guests), elegant, and thoughtfully designed with both indoor and outdoor seating—perfect for any weather. There's even a bathroom on board, which is a rare find on canal boats!
Captain Jack is a true Amsterdammer with a deep love for his city. His stories weren’t rehearsed or robotic—they were shared with passion and authenticity, making us feel like we were part of the conversation rather than just guests. The 90-minute ride was peaceful, luxurious, and incredibly relaxing. With a well-stocked open bar and even a Nespresso machine for those "morning after" moments, it was the perfect start to our day.
The entire experience felt personal, warm, and so reasonably priced for the level of quality and comfort. It was without a doubt one of the highlights of our time in Amsterdam. I highly recommend Bow’s Journeys for anyone looking for a memorable and meaningful...
