We arrived with great expectations. Our last visit 4 years ago was still fresh in our memories as the ultimate Devine food experience. The charming house and the welcoming words from the staff made us feel like home in this strange and ancient city. We got the same table as last time. The silver mirror had been changed. The table was beautifully sett. Every plate, glass and piece of silverware was impeccably and laid out on the table. Succulent sourdough bread with an amazing thin and crispy crust together with butter was irresistible. The Zilverwater in the champagne was a new experience and enhanced the dept of the flavour. Three different amuses from the kitchen were placed before us. Tree art pieces in form, flavour and texture. A gentle Tribach muscat from Alsace tickled our tastebuds and complemented the Smoked eel creation with the rich foamy eel sauce. The dish was delicately put together in an intricate way by many well thought of small elements to a complete delight. The wine for the second dish was a Louis Cheze Marsanne 2021, a very creamy, unctuous and delicious wine with subtle honeyed notes. An amazing wine from Rhône. The dish itself was all vegetables, cut and assembled as a circle with round tilted and carved roof, all enclosed by a moat of beurre blanc. The scallop was a piece of art regarding taste and presentation. The taste of ingredients of the dish melted together in perfect harmony enriched by the champagne sauce. The white gentle wine, Esporão Reserva blanco 2020 from Alentejo in Portugal, had an astonishing bouquet and elevated the dish further. The turbot was firm and tender. A desirable piece of fish treated with care and love. The fresh white fish together with the juniper bacon, chanterelles and razor clam in the delicious fish sauce looked like a dream. Tete de Cuvee a chardonnay from Domaine Tariquet, complimented it beautifully. Then the Calf in the juc de vesu was presented. Equally great and tender with subtle vegetables in a deep dark plate made it a challenging necessity to get out the last droplet of Sauce. A Spatburgunder Jomax Trocken 2021 had the acidity just right for this dish. Vina real reserve 2016 a dry, complex and balanced Tempranillo together with “The fallow Dear” gave a synergistic tasteful effect. Topped with beautiful crunchy flowers it impressed in both taste and beauty. The first of the desserts a whole milk ice cream with crispy foam, almond cake and honey crisp together with the Ramos Pinto Adriano Porto white Reserva was refreshing and rich. The grand finale of the meal was the dessert, a soft and delicious snow crystal with accessories, accompanied by a beautiful Floralis Muscatel Oro from Torres. Thank you so much for yet another memorable and divine evening. We got relay moved by your hospitality and amount of skilled effort to make the evening perfect in any possible way. Can’t imagine why you don’t have a wonderful nightly sky full of beautiful...
Read moreWhat an absolute treat! Service was excellent and the quality of food was fantastic! The server explained the history of the house - old Mayor's house converted into a restaurant - and gave us a very brief tour - we were the first ones at the restaurant so the server had time to explain the history.
My husband had their Michelin special that included a 5-course lunch with a glass of champagne, wine pairings, coffee & tiny sweets. I don't drink alcohol so I had the 5 course menu without the drinks.
The server made me two "special" drinks that he mixed at my table. The drinks were not on the menu and he just made them based on the flavors I liked. I don't remember what they were called except one was a little tart and the other was sweet. Both were excellent, and the presentation of the drink was great!
The presentation of food was good and it was very flavorful. Each dish didn't disappoint and I love the combination of flavors. It was a treat for my eyes and my tastebud! :)
Service was also top notch - we had two servers to 5 tables so they were extremely attentive and friendly, taking time to explain each dish and the wine pairing. Our lunch took about 2.5 hours and we didn't feel rushed at all. Expect to sit and enjoy lunch for over 3 hours, esp if you order coffee and want to sit and talk.
The servers obviously take great pride in their job and it made me feel happy to see that. We ended up tipping higher than normal for European standards, which made our server happy. And we were happy to see him happy..It was such a fantastic experience all around.
My only regret was not making the reservation earlier so we could have dinner --- book early because by the time we finalized our dinner plans (1.5 weeks before we traveled), there were no available time slots for dinner. And if you decide to splurge and do their Michelin Special, you won't regret it!!!
My husband and I are on a crazy foodie tour starting in Copehengan and ending in Amesterdam. We have been to several Michelin restaurants, and this is one of my favorites so far (and we were at some highly rated restaurants in Copehengan so this is...
Read moreA modern cuisine featuring restaurant that is embedded with history in Amsterdam.
Order: 8 course meal with wine pairing (I forgot to take the pic of the sweetbread) Silver and gold spiegel Michelin special.
Location: Heart of Amsterdam, close to central station and basically everywhere in the city. Beautiful restaurant and the patio dining was fabulous. 5/5
Service: Our server was charming and delightful.. impeccable service. He put up with my state of progressive inebriation with every passing course and wine pairing. In my defense, I had been drinking before the restaurant. 5/5
Value: high end restaurant. Not cheap. Expensive relatively for many restaurants . However, the quality of the presentation and ingrdients and service makes it fair for value..the discounted special price made it a steal. 5/5. Still 200 euros per person. Keep that in mind.
Taste: the chef is very talented. He managed to create culinary masterpieces. The wine pairings were thoughtful as they complemented the dishes very well. 5/5
Highlights of the night included the rib eye of beef very rich and flavourful, langoustine (which was cooked to perfection) and the first dessert. The milk and honey dish. Ice cream and honey crisps with an almond cake. It was light yet sweet. I enjoyed the coolness of the ice cream to balance out the heaviness of the previous course (rib eye).
However, the best dish for me was the mussels. It was the star of the show. Perfect dish, flawless execution. One of the best dishes I ever had.
Overall: outstanding meal. I have no complaints of this restaurant. A brilliant meal with some of my best friends whom I consider to be as close as family made the remarkable meal even more...
