I had this on my list of places to try for awhile, so when a friend suggested we meet in de pijp for dinner, it seemed like an obvious choice. However, after sharing 4 plates with a friend, I can confidently say I’ll never be back. It’s very rare for me to leave bad reviews, especially for places with unique concepts. However this place is not worth the hype by any means.

The service was horrendous. It took 40 minutes to get our first plate (focaccia bread with pickled vegetables) it then took another hour for the remaining dishes to come. The pork belly was incredibly dry, and the leek/pistachio dish was ice cold. The potatoes were good, but it’s potatoes and hard to mess up.

The temperature of the restaurant was quite chilly, with every patron wearing their jacket indoors. This was easily remedied when the door was closed (by a patron). The inattentiveness of the staff is incredible.

I was (un)fortunate enough to be sitting at a table facing the kitchen, where I saw the chef lick their fingers to taste something and then continue with their task without washing...

A new gem in the Pijp that serves both Indonesian and Swedish dishes based on the owners roots and her experience cooking in Indonesia.

The owner warmly greeted us herself when we walked in. Super cozy interior. It was only 11:30 and already almost full so it’s probably smart to make resos ahead of time for brunch on Sat/Sun.

My hubby and I got the Swedish meatballs and Kaya toast. The meatballs were cooked perfectly…moist and falling apart. Amazing comfort food for a rainy day.

The kaya toast was so delicious and unique. It’s a traditional Indonesian dish served for breakfast. It’s served with a side of runny eggs that you can dip the brioche into. Highly recommend!

Oh and coffee is amazing. Definitely coming back on the weekend to try their...

Must-try Scandinavian Brunch in Amsterdam

Kafé Kontrast is a relaxed bistro offering dinner and brunch with comfort food 🍽️, natural wines 🍷, and house-infused botanical snaps 🌿. Rooted in Swedish culture 🇸🇪 and inspired by Indonesian heritage 🇮🇩, the bistro blends both cuisines to create a warm and familiar dining experience.

✅ Variety of options on the menu ✅ Generous portions ✅ Good value for money ✅ Cozy ambiance ✅ Friendly and welcoming staff ✅ Excellent quality

🍽️ What we had: Scandinavian breakfast Gravlax smörrebröd Köttbullar Sticky rice chocolate cake

💸 €30-40 p.p.

A unique, charming, idyllic cafe and restaurant brought to you by most talented and fantastic culinary/hospitality team. The cuisine can be described as Indonesia meets Sweden. It is simply so good. Not only food looks fantastic but it also tastes simply divine. The attention to each detail from interior to tables to plates, just makes me emotional. I love it here. Recommended 💯 Open Wednesday to Sunday. On weekends they do brunch and other than that they are open from 4pm for bites and then transform into dinner concept. I love their blue mussels with burrata and the duck rillette is divine. The Kaya toast for brunch as well as the Swedish meatballs are unmissable.
