Disgraceful service and from the owner himself no less. My order was completely wrong (chicken swapped for beef), yet instead of admitting fault, the owner argued with me as if I was the problem.

I repeated three separate times over the phone that I wanted chicken fried rice. If the person running the place can’t get a simple order right or worse, refuses to acknowledge a mistake then it’s not just bad service, it’s outright incompetence.

I’ve been a customer here for years, but loyalty clearly means nothing to this business. Prices keep climbing every few months while food quality stays average at best, and customer service sinks lower each time. When the owner treats customers with arrogance instead of accountability, it’s no surprise this shop is sitting at a mediocre 3.9-star rating. That score is generous and after this experience, it’s obvious why it will never climb higher.

This isn’t just poor service, it’s a reflection of a business rotting from the top down. If the owner can’t show basic respect or responsibility, there’s no chance the staff ever will.

A restaurant led this way isn’t built to last it’s built to drive customers away.

Had my first visit to Good Horse Takeaway recently and was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and portion sizes. If you’re after a solid fish and chips experience, this spot definitely delivers on quantity and taste.

The fish was fresh and well-cooked, with a flaky interior and a golden, crunchy exterior. My only critique is the batter, which was quite thick—more than I’d prefer. It slightly masked the flavor of the fish and made the bite feel a bit heavy at times. A lighter, crispier batter would have really let the quality of the fish shine through.

The chips were excellent—generously portioned, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. They were well-seasoned and not overly greasy, which is always a bonus with takeaway.

Service was efficient, and the food was packed thoughtfully to keep it hot and fresh by the time I got home. Everything arrived in great condition, which made for a satisfying meal overall.

I’d definitely return for another round of fish and chips. While the batter could be improved, the freshness, portion size, and overall value make this a reliable go-to for a classic Kiwi...

We have been regularly enjoying fri night takeaway from here. Last night sadly was our last. I ordered over the phone and have my name for the order. 30 mins normal wait time so no issue with this. My 11 year old daughter and I arrived and my daughter said I’ll go in - she is fiercely independent and has done this many times. There seemed to be an issue when she was paying at the eftpos machine so I hopped out to make sure everything ok . We had been overcharged so I questioned the lady have we paid for the right order as it was a lot more than I was expecting. Lady was quite stressed and it was busy . She kept telling me your daughter she said yes this is the order. I tried to talk to say no the order was not correct as she read it back to me . Yes it had my name but had been taken wrongly over the phone She began to get agatied and talking louder and louder, the shop was full and to avoid further embarrassment for me and my daughter we just took the food and left.

We will not be back it was a very intimidating...
