Long Review Worst Hotel I've ever stayed at!! Room had a slight damp smell, it needed a vacuum, fridge needed a clean, some of the curtain was hanging of the rail, sliding door was a mission to open and close, phone didn't even work and the floor near the entrance to the bathroom was damaged(suspected water damage) and was clearly not safe.
When we complained at reception they gave us a new room. When my husband and cousins went to check the new room it was no different. Not long after while they were there the kettle caught on fire (they hadn't touched it). They went to ring reception to notify them the phone was not working. They then put out the fire themselves and by then the fire alarm went off. The staff were more concerned about why they opened the room door. (Not sure why🤔)
All the workers were running around for nothing and no one came to see if all the guests (who had gathered outside at entrance) were safe or inform them of what was happening or when it was safe to go back to their rooms. Other guests who just checked in ended up checking out as they felt unsafe.
We requested for a refund but apparently this was not possible till the manager got back on Sunday. They then offered us an upgrade room with aircon, but then we still had more issues.
The shower didn't work properly, water only came out from half of the shower head. Sliding door was a mission to open and close, no service door tag and no toilet brush even after requesting for one.
Room got serviced but we still had a dirty toilet and bathroom aswell as dirty cups after the service. When I complained to the manager (lady wearing hijab) she was adamant it was done but then reassured us that someone will come and do it again. When we got back to hotel it was still the same. When I complained again the next morning to a guy who said he was the night Manager, he said our complaint was valid and that I can talk to the General Manager when he arrives at 9am on that day.
When I went back slightly after 9am they said he was not there yet. We travelled 15mins to go back to the hotel in the afternoon to speak to the GM but got told by the receptionist that he was busy in a very important meeting. I shared with her what the night manager said and she said he was the receptionist not the manager🤦♀️
I requested to speak to a real Manager and she said she had gone for the day and she didnt know what to do with my complaint. She went off twice to make phone calls and then came back and told me to sit down to wait. After serving other guests, her phone rung and she handed me the phone saying it was the lady manager(who I spoke to before) She was very rude and made comments about us not understanding what a service is and that maybe we've never stayed at a hotel before. She was very unprofessional and not once did she ever apologise for their unacceptable service.!
Definitely wouldnt recommend this...

No umbrella's supplied, so drove over to the Gateway Reception. No information on my booking confirmation did it say, that to check in at the GATEWAY MOTEL.Room allocated at the VR Auckland Airport was Room 68. Drove back to the VR property and unpacked the car and went to Room 68.First impression on opening the door, very nice. Well, was I very happy.................NO ! Due to the bad weather there was flooding in the shower/toilet area thru the ceiling that greeted us.Next door was a maintenance room, which had a massive hole in the ceiling and severe flooding thru out the room. Doors open, so all guests could view.Back to the unattended reception area at the VR using the phone, telephoned the reception at the Gateway. Service personnel came over and moved us to Room 62. Nice room, started to unpack, turned the TV on, ready to relax after long drive, NO SIGNAL notification on the television screenWent to use the phone in Room 62 to contact Reception, not working, no dial tone.Back to the reception, phone in the VR and rang the GATEWAY. Service personnel comes back, gets the TV working, says sorry about the phone, will not work.Cleaniless not the best, mould on the shower ceiling, cracked tiles in the bathroom, ripped wallpaper by the entrance door. After watching TV for about 1 hour, switched the television off as one should do when leaving the room and went into Newmarket to meet family for dinner.Back to Room 62 at about 8.30, thru the reception doors at the VR which were open, went to Room 62, went to turn the TV on again, guess what, NO SIGNAL again.By now, I am literally pissed off to the hilt, wife says forget about it , lets go to sleep early after such a long tiring day.On the booking I asked for a quiet room, did I get one, NO. Braking trucks and noisy traffic all night.Next morning, going to check out, loading suitcases into the car, reception doors, close behind me, no code given to re-enter the place. How did I enjoy my stay at the VR Airport Hotel........................ NO WAY AT ALL. WILL NOT BE BACKEven though the room was an economy priced deal, the product received was indeed, VERY POOR.Recommend the VR to...

There's nothing better that the worst sleep of your life before a 6 am flight, just to keep you on your toes. Who doesn't love the zen peaceful feeling of paper thin walls? Take your pick, loud moaning couple to the left? Or loud booming bass to the right? Immaculate cleanliness, you will feel your cleanest after showering in a shower that has wadded up bandaids in the corner. Also if you like a good guessing game, for instance, what could that brown splatter on the wall beside the bed be? And if you'd like to disconnect a little, it's very easy to do because the wifi does not work! Do you like a little risk in your life? That's good, because the window on the ground floor does not have a handle, and will not close. Who knows who may visit you in the night. Speaking of company, you'll never truly be alone, as there are plenty of spiders, mosquitoes and fruit flies to wait out the ticking of the clock with you. And as an added adventure for a risk taker, there are literal holes in the kitchen floor, you get to avoid them and it can be like "floor is lava," except it's "floor has holes." So fun! Careful not to drop anything that rolls under the bed, you may pull out something that doesn't belong to you, along with lots of little bits of debris. Make sure to return it to where you found it. And we all know part of sleeping in a hotel is thinking a lot about who slept there before you, so to really amp that up they will even leave a few black hairs that definitely don't belong to you on the sheets. I assume they do this in replacement of the classic chocolate on your pillow. A really thoughtful extra touch. While laying awake in your dirty bed staring at the curtains that are falling off their rod, with only two hours before you have to get up for the bus to the airport, you can weigh the likelihood that you would have rested better on the airport floor. At least the airport wouldn't have charged you extra for the discomfort. Who doesn't like a good internal debate when they are trying to sleep?
Perfect stay for masochists and anyone who likes buildings that are or will...
