Not your average Airport Hotel! The Naumi Auckland Airport is well located around a roughly 5 min drive from the Domestic Terminal. From the outside, the hotel looks rather tired and dated. This changes as you walk through the doors into reception. Clean, bright, with lots of colour, it makes a great first impression. The Hotel has several Self-Check In and Check Out machines. However, I got served by a very friendly, bubbly young lady behind the counter. She was very forthcoming with information about the hotel amenities, parking, and also the on-site Restaurant Lunar. Also, I got given a map with excellent directions to my upstairs room, and also to a family members room at the other side of the complex. All the staff I encountered were extremely friendly. Even every cleaner I passed acknowledged me and asked if I was having a good day. Parking was readily available, with two large lots on either side of the hotel. There is a $10 charge per night. I had booked a Habitat Room for myself and also for some family. However, I decided to upgrade my room to an Oasis Room. On walking into my room, I was very impressed. Lots of colour and well appointed. Everything was fastidiously clean and tidy, with not so much as a stray hair or cobweb. The bathroom was beautiful, with a large walk-in shower and a deep bathtub. The shower had excellent pressure, and there were heaps of shampoos and soaps - even a Bath Bomb! All the linens were of good quality and were crisp and white. Large 50-inch Smart TV on the wall with the basic Freeview Channels. The Bed unfortunately was really hard. In fact, it was the hardest bed I have ever encountered. Whereas the beds in my family's room were very plush and comfortable. If definitely made it hard to get a good sleep. Unfortunately all the joinery is very old and is single glazed. This meant a lot of road noise was heard. However, there wasn't a sound from other rooms or guests. This was a nice change compared to other hotels, where you can literally hear your neighbour's conversations. I was disappointed that I had already made dinner plans. The On-Site restaurant looked incredible. The smells were absolutely enticing, and when walking by, the food looked incredible. Definitely one to add to my list of places to visit. I had breakfast at the restaurant the next morning. Unfortunately, it was pretty average. There was lots of variety, but it just wasn't all that nice. Bacon was burnt, sausages just dripping in grease, runny scrambled eggs and waffles that were as hard as bricks. At $30 per person, I had hoped for better. That all said, Naumi punches above its weight. The interior has been beautifully refurbished, the staff are very friendly, and the location is fantastic. Small niggles like the Breakfast, the Noise ect are just that - small niggles. I will absolutely return to the Naumi, and very much look forward to my next visit.

Another example of a hotel deciding on their own star rating. The incompetence of the staff from booking, to the receptionist and then the restaurant was staggering. Only stay there if there is absolutely nowhere else to go. We booked online as there was an offer for diner and breakfast included. We paid $390. We arrived and proceeded to online check in, there is only one sign to find rooms and it’s incorrect so we ended up walking around going up and down lifts, there is no staff around to help. We went for our included diner and the staff had no clue about the promotion. After talking to reception they said we had an allowance of $30 each. (Each dish is $29) so the diner doesn’t include any drinks. We needed up go back and forth to reception who didn’t pass the message to the restaurant staff. It was getting late. In the end we agreed that they refund the promotional breakfast and diner which basically means they charged us at least $174 for something we could have paid for a lot less ourselves. I still think they ripped us off as the room would have been less when we booked it. The restaurant is like faulty towers, no one knows what’s going on. The menu is very limited and all dishes targeted at teenagers. The food took forever to arrive and was not great to say the least. The room was ok. When it came to the bill at the end, they owed us a refund, the lady kept insisting she had refunded the card that had paid the room, was super patronising when I kept repeating it was the wrong card number. In the end they did refund the card that the deposit went on and not the card they said would get the refund. I don’t often write bad reviews but tho was too much…. The shuttle bus driver was great though, but then realised it’s a separate service not associated with Naumi…

It will take you 25-30 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport depending how many people and other hotels the bus needs to stop at. That doesn’t include waiting for the bus (leaves approx. every 30 minutes) at Bay D (see attached photo). You need to buy a ticket before boarding. You can buy a ticket at the hotel or just buy a return ticket at the airport. The bus runs 24 hours. If you arrive late at night, you might as well then take an Uber into Auckland CBD and get a wider choice of rooms. Or simply book at a hotel right at the airport (Pullman or Novotel), or cheaper, the Ibis, first stop on the hotel bus. I stayed at the Naumi twice. First time I arrived after midnight. The Duty Manager saw me arrive and personally came to great be and check me in. Nice service. Room was spacious with a nice wet room shower area. Funky decor a la Citizen M brand of hotels, but cheaper look. Nice wet room shower area in bathroom. No hot water, just luke warm. Basin sink clogged. Second time arrived around d 7 PM. Had to check in via a machine. Upon entering room saw that metal sink stopper was jammed shut. No way to use the sink as it wouldn’t drain. Housekeeper must have noticed but done nothing? Went down to reception and they upgraded me. This time I did have hot water and a working sink but no hair dryer. This hotel is ok. You get what you pay for. I won’t be back because I can’t rely on basics like hot water; working sink and hairdryer being in place. Last thing you need after a long flight and early start the next day are these hassles.

We chose this hotel because it seemed unique and quirky. What we found was the hallways were dark and our room The OASIS dark and gloomy. We were provided 2 coffee pods for 2 people, enough for one cup each, when I asked for more it took 4 hours for someone to come and when they did housekeeping just walked in the room without knocking while my partner was standing at the ironing board in his towel as we were getting ready to go out for the evening. After all that they bought 2 more coffee pods. We had decided to go for a quick swim before showering and getting ready for an evening out. The pool was locked, by the time the front desk had tracked someone down to open the locked door it was too late for a swim. The amenities advertised states "smart TV with Netflix" when we tried to watch Netflix it required a log in. I contacted reception and they advised that the app for Netflix is included but you need your own Netflix log in. This is completely misleading advertising. Next to the coffee machine there is a little stand where the coffee pods sit, the room is so dark and gloomy it was hard to see and when I removed the coffee cup from the machine and placed on the counter it caught the edge of the stand and coffee was spilt everywhere. We had to use tissues and towels to clean it up. I contacted reception for assistance but it kept going to voicemail. Because of this spill I needed fresh towels as I had rinsed all the coffee out to remove the risk of staining so they were soaking wet. I left a tag on our door to refresh our room as we needed more towels and coffee. We were out all day and on returning at 9pm at night our room has not been cleaned or replacement towels or coffee. Again I had to go looking for coffee. None of this was the worst aspect of this hotel. The absolutely worst thing of this hotel was the bed. It was like sleeping on concrete. After 2 nights on this bed my entire body ached. I had used all pillows and blankets to try and add an extra layer between myself and the mattress and even seriously considered sleeping on the floor the bed was that bad. I have stayed in many hotels all over the world and slept on many uncomfortable beds but this rates as the worst I have ever slept on. We paid almost $600 for 2 nights in this hotel and was most certainly NOT worth the money. Do yourselves a favor and choose somewhere else if you want a comfortable nights sleep and good...

I've stayed twice before with Naumi, this was my third. Experience previous had been great, parking my car was free then, not so now ($7 for overnight). Dealing with reception had been okay. My daughter booked this overnight stay for me, through Agoda, as she didn't want me (65yr old woman) driving 2 hours at night all the way home. Long story short, I forgot they want $100 bond in case of "damages". Being a Sunday night I couldn't transfer from my online savings to my card. My debit card had money, but not $100. I explained I don't have $100, they bleated "policy" and said I had to pay. I argued that was a "regular" staying customer, they can keep my debit card at reception if they want but I couldn't transfer anymore money on to my card. "Sorry, it's policy ma'am, take a seat and we will see what we can do for you" (Note: they could do nothing for me except bleat on about "policy"). I said, "okay, since you are rejecting my stay tonight, please refund my daughters money she paid for the room and I'll drive home". They insist they can't do that, they weren't "denying my stay" (which in fact they were if I wasn't able to pay the bond). I'm angry by now, tell them I'm a little old lady with 2 bung hips and a dodgy knee, what "damage" will I cause in the room???? "Sorry ma'am, it's our policy". Long story short, I call my daughter, she pays the bond and I get a shower, all the complimentary drinks, snacks and teas etc, and guess what??? I don't do ANY DAMAGE TO THE ROOM, cause all I wanted was a shower and a sleep! Will I stay there again - NO. And oh, by the way, there is no reference to the $100 damage bond when booking via the Agoda website. Have I got my $100 bond back to my card yet??? NO! (it's been 3 hours since I checked out). Now the room was great, bed as super comfy, everything in the room was more than satisfactory EXCEPT FOR THE VIEW. I had an upstairs room called "Habitat". It was a million miles of walking if you take the lift, or stairs was closer to the room, but difficult to lug my overnight bag up the stairs, if you've got arthritic hips and knees. The VIEW from my balcony overlooked the backyard of some kind of industrial site, and it was UGLY. All you could see was dumpsters, cardboard waste strewn around behind a building - IT WAS NOT PRETTY AND SO I KEPT MY CURTAINS CLOSED. Where's the point in having a balcony if you can't sit on it and enjoy...
