Solid range of bikes to rent here.
What I did notice during the pickup process and after riding:
They ask you when booking for your weight, height, and brake lever orientation. When I arrived the bike I booked had been set aside, but hadn't been set up with any of the info I'd been asked to provide earlier.
They were busy so i didn't want to wait longer than what it took for them to swap the brake levers, put more air in the forks, and fit my pedals.
It would have been great if they gave the process a head start by getting the levers set up as requested, set fork pressure to match rider weight, with damper settings to match fork and coil spring. Would save staff time during the busiest part of the morning, and chance for us to do more riding.
I chose to complete the setup process when up on the mountain. Though I'm sure if I asked for more help at the shop with the other settings, staff would have assisted.
After hitting the trails it also became apparent both brakes were scraping on the rotors due to caliper or pistons being out of centre.
The zero gap stem face plate also hadn't been fitted correctly. See pic.
Hopefully i just caught them on a bad day and next time I'll get a bike in better condition. Cannot fault the staff they were friendly and helpful. Great location at the base of...
Read moreAt $39 per hardtail mountain bike for an afternoon, it’s perfect for my son and I to tackle the gentle 30km round trip along the Queenstown Frankton trail, that takes you around the golf course opposite the township. The service from the 2 guys today is very friendly and accommodating. The bikes are more than adequate and they have a huge and diverse range of bike rental options, including guided tours. They also give out a helpful map of trails in the area, with difficulty and fitness levels etc. Our bikes are clean, and well serviced, although both of them needed the gears tweaked to make the shifting a little more responsive and precise, which we passed on to them upon our return. The bikes were noted for servicing and we were thanked for our feedback, so presumably they were indeed given a quick tune up in this area. This is the beauty of renting bikes from a bike shop (versus your accommodation etc)- they are able to quickly service the bikes when they need attention. My suggestion would be to take your bike for a short ride and see how the gear changes and brakes are performing, and then ask the guys to give them a tweak if required, as it usually only requires a few twists of the cable adjusters to get them in tune, and they will know exactly...
Read moreVery highly recommended. Won't be taking my bike elsewhere!!
I'm fairly clueless and on a bike that's new to me, so I very much appreciated Rob taking the time to really delve into all the details with me. Super knowledgeable and patient - up there with the best customer service I have ever experienced and I walked out with a whole lot more knowledge than I had when I came in.
In the space of a few hours and at a very reasonable cost (cheaper than the big chain store on the corner that shall remain nameless!) they managed to convert to tubeless and install two new tires for me, helped me set up my suspension to suit my weight and riding style and had a look over things to give me an idea of what might need servicing as the season progresses. Not once was there any attempt to up-sell or to get me spending more than I had intended when I walked in.
Absolute legends. Thanks Rob and Vertigo for your hard work and for your support of the...
