Woolworths Metro Halsey Street — Local services in Waitematā

This supermarket is the closest to me by far so I have been here a lot over the years. In that time I have accidentally bought stuff that was past its best before date with incredible frequency and almost made the mistake many times. I have seen tortellini over a month past its best before date on the shelves, packets of gnocchi with green mould growing within staying on the shelf for over a week, expired milk, and bread that is already stale. The fruit and vegetable section just looks sad, like leftovers from other supermarkets, and how often they have these issues year after year really leads me to an inescapable conclusion: they do it on purpose. I can’t really think of any other reason why there would constantly be so much expired food (a whole MONTH, really?) without anything changing for so long, unless they were trying, on purpose, to get away with selling old stock to unsuspecting people. So glad that a Countdown branch opened near the office. Have visited twice so far, but I unfortunately find myself wanting to visit another, bigger branch (therefore spending a bit more) because there’s not much products on stock here.

For instance, can’t find fresh salmon, some chicken parts, low carb wrap... their chocolate promo is also slightly more expensive (eg Whittakers is currently $10 for 2, while only $9 for 2 in the Newmarket branch).

There’s much less people here though, so would be good to visit if you just need to buy a few things that you forgot to get from a full-blown...
