FOREIGNERS BEWARE//
Boracay Talipapa is wet market which sells seafood and meat. Besides these, there are fruits and vegetables available.
This market is filled with scammers, the shops will give you the tourists one price and the locals a seperate price. The sad part is, the local prices themselves are 25%-30% higher than elsewhere in Philippines.
We bought tiger prawns, as my wife is a Filipino, we were offered a price of ₱950, while we were still buying there, they sold the same one kilo of prawns which was quoted ₱950 for ₱1500 to another foreigner couple. We later met them at another shop and confirmed this. This is really sad and speaks volumes about Boracay and Philippines. All the other shops are also priced ridiculously and quote extreme prices. If you are a tourist, it is best to avoid this market and just buy what you need at City Mall or Robinsons, at least its fixed prices which are same for everyone.
If you are into wet markets and want to see big fish being sliced or lobsters etc being sold, you can go take a look around and get some good...
Read moreTourist be careful when you try the seafood Dampa Paluto. I have bought shrimp and crabs so when I offered to pay they told me that the restaurant will include it in my bill, so I thought that was fine. Restaurant told me that it will cost Peso 250 for each dish that they will cook, in my case, I had requested two dishes. Crab cooked in coconut milk and shrimp cooked in Garlic and Butter. The crab was fine, but the shrimp was cooked really badly in margarine. It taste like eating a sweet pop corn. When I asked for the bill, I noticed that they add 10% service charge on the total amount cost of shrimp and crab plus Peso 500 for cooking the 2 dishes. I strongly believe that I should have only paid 10% service charge based on Peso 500 and not including the price of the seafood. This is their way of scamming the tourist. I recommend to pay for the seafood separately and only then take it the restaurant to cook it…If they refuse...
