The single best bang-for-buck you can find in this area without going through a longer term rental agreement.
I am currently a student at NTNU and was desperately finding accommodation . I first went through a strange broker from the US who would offer me tons of rooms at my price range, but would always give it to someone else. This went on for months and was quite infuriating. I gave up with him and instead started looking through AirBnB - this is where I first found Guest House Taiwanmex. I sent them a message through there but noticed they only responded to 1% of all messages, so I googled for their website instead. On their website I found their phone number and called. Magos was very friendly on the phone, and immediately said I can speak in English with her. So I told her about my study plan, then we took the conversation to WhatsApp. There she told me the rate per month, which was ideal, and had its own bathroom! A rare feature on apartments more expensive than this one. I asked her if she needed a deposit, she refused, saying it was too complicated and that she would wait until I was here. This shows that she is honest and patient. I just needed to give her a scan of my passport. She asked me for my flight number and said she would wait for me nearby.
Once I arrived, she said waited by the local FamilyMart late at night, and escorted me to the apartment. The hallway had quite a lot of stuff in it, I believe they moved buildings recently so a lot of stuff is waited to be stored somewhere. Once I stepped into the apartment, it was clean and well equipped. There was a balcony with a washing machine and a kettle. It comes with an AC unit, a microwave, a TV, a personal fridge. Basically everything you need for a few months.
Magos has been very kind with service and conversations. She is very patient with my questions and is very easy-going. A pleasure to deal with.
Overall I would highly recommend Guest House Taiwanmex for folks that would like a fantastic value for money and a top location. I believe there is only one private apartment at the moment, so inquire with her directly to...
Read moreHave stayed here before but it has gone downhill ...so never again...worst mistake of my life. It was horrible. I got so hot I was dripping with sweat and could not sleep at all. The rooms have no windows and they say the have aircon, but it works on a central aircon which only the manager can control for all rooms and they had it set to 28 degrees celcius...so hot. I asked them to make it cooler so he set it down by 1 degree...no good. My opinion is that they are trying to save on the electric bill...which won't help if no guests return because they were so uncomfortable they cant sleep. I checked out the next morning after no sleep along with other guests who also complained about how hot it is in their tiny little rooms...its like staying in a hotbox. ||||Next major problem is the manager. An Asian guy who is not friendly at all and and seems really angry - he slams the doors constantly. He's awake until like 2 or 3 in the morning and if you do manage to fall asleep it won't be for long before you are woken up with him slamming another door shut. ||||Stay somewhere else if you want to sleep. You will regret staying here..complete waste of time and money.||||Advice to owners: set aircon to at least room temperature which is 21 degrees celcius or a bit cooler so guests don't have to have sweat dripping and suffer overheating in your rooms. ||||And tell your manager to be considerate of guests who are sleeping by not slamming doors shut but to close the doors gently and to be...
Read moreFirstly, this is not a guesthouse, it is a hostel dormitory.||The rooms are tiny and the walls are very thin and so is the mattress so you will not get any sleep.||Seriously, the walls are very thin. You can hear every sound in the room next door, You will find it impossible to sleep with the amount of people going in and out of their rooms, and in and out of the bathrooms shutting the doors loudly each time, all in narrow passage/corridor with no spacing at all. ||The beds are very short, very uncomfortable. and the room is so small you can hardly get dressed in the room. No space to store your luggage in your room - too small to accommodate your suitcase, because if you bring it into your room, you won't be able to open the door. ||On the positive side, their bedding is clean and towels are provided and clean. The place in general, it was fairly clean, albeit very run down looking, but it is actually pretty clean compared to many places that I have stayed at, except for one smallish cockroach running under my bedroom door, and one cockroach at the laundry room door when I went to close it, but nothing other than that. and apparently Taipei has a major problem with cockroaches so that is understandable. ||There are much nicer places with better facilities for literally around 2 or 3 dollars more a day and you get a much...
