Wanted to share my recent experience with this practice, after being taken advantage of with unnecessary treatment. Iāll start this off with saying that both reception staff & all the dental assistants are some of the loveliest, understanding and caring people who I was truly grateful for on the day I visited.
However, it was entirely downhill from here when I was being seen by one dentist (who I wonāt name). Iām on disability pay, I have severe anxiety alongside a condition of my nervous system that results in heart palpitations and shakes when under stress. This was clearly documented on my online form; I was shaking too badly on the day to write this on my paper version.
Upon entering the treatment room for a checkup, I made sure to tell the dentist this information. Instead of being understanding, I was immediately met with āYou shouldāve put that on your formā. I clarified that I did via the online one; he huffed and went to the computer to check I was telling the truth. āNo you did not, write it down next timeā. (I can assure you, it was there).
At this point, my anxiety was sky high and I felt myself becoming incredibly vulnerable as I soon realised I wasnāt in the hands of someone capable of being kind. After taking X-rays and lacking a proper gum examination (for example testing pocket depth), I get told that I have severe Periodontal Disease including bone loss. Iām shocked, to which Iām asked in a very accusatory tone āDo you brush your teeth?ā.
I replied, twice a day with a sonic toothbrush, mouth-washing between meals. I have never had a cavity or bad calculus.
He did not seem to believe me and proceeded to lay it on thick that I would need a Ā£270 deep clean of all my teeth as well as check ups every 3 months. I was also told I required prescription mouthwash and toothpaste to āsave my teethā. I left in tears, got home and had at look at my gum health for myself. I couldnāt see any problems that would indicate severe periodontal disease and I was right.
I decided to get a second opinion at my partners dentist of 8+ years. (Sherwood dental care) I waited two weeks feeling awful about myself and my OCD was triggered massively. Sleepless nights, severe anxiety to find out that I had in fact - a simple case of reversible gingivitis. I had a £68 hygienist visit taking 20 minutes and was told I was doing everything perfectly with my teeth, and that I only need to visit once every 6 months.
I feel disgusted that I was upsold unnecessary treatment and was taken advantage of as a disabled patient on limited income. I wasnāt treated with care by the dentist and definitely did not feel at ease. Iām glad I got a second opinion and saved my gums + Ā£270. Do not hesitate to ask for a second opinion if you get told the same thing.
I hope no one else experiences this when visiting, if your dentist canāt have good communication with you, theyāre not a good dentist.
Furthermore, when I had my front tooth cosmetically bonded in 2021 at mapperly, the dentist I had was lovely as was his assistant and thatās why I returned when I had income available. Itās a shame that the place has gone downhill so dramatically in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the worst dental practice Iāve ever visited. I left upset and frustrated after seeing Amreen who in my opinion is inexperienced and unprofessional. From the minute I arrived as a private emergency patient she laid it on thick with the sales pitch. I left with a botched temporary filling that looks ridiculous on my front tooth and cost me Ā£99. She pushed multiple times to try persuade me to purchase toothpaste, gel and teeth whitening at the cost of Ā£250+ before returning for a Ā£49 mouth check up prior to my Ā£150 permanent filling. I was told I definitely needed teeth whitening, otherwise she would never be able to match the permanent filling to my own teeth. Absolute BS. Iāve never once been told this by any dentist and Iāve had this filling twice before over the years with no issue. Iām also in my 30ās with excellent teeth otherwise. She poked repeatedly at my gum next to the tooth, made it bleed and told me I needed to buy a special paste to get my gums in order (that 10 minutes prior she said were very healthy) otherwise my blood would stain a permanent filling. I was also not the only patient leaving with a handful of overpriced products which says it all. Iāve been left having to pay for another private appointment somewhere else to get the botched filling removed, before I can have a permanent fix. This is now costing £££££. Avoid like place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a patient here for over 30 years , and even when I moved 40 miles away, 8 years ago, I am happy to make the trek twice a year for good reason. Excellent staff front of house and the dental technicians.Helga Martin an exceptional dentist and I have been with her since the leaving of my previous dentist who retired a couple cod decades ago. Continuity of care in any profession is paramount , by seeing the same capable and very professional dentist , Helga itās a no brainier. It would have been 5 stars āļø but if I have any criticism if one can call it that, it is that I very rarely got seen at the time of the appointment that they have set. I appreciate that on the odd occasion this can happen but itās been to many times from my personal experience. On two occasions over the years itās been almost an hour, most time between ten and twenty minutes I think if you are running behind , a timescale of that delay should be mentioned to the patient at the point of entry, so they can decide whether to wait or not . Most people fit their appointments between other things and also they have used the pay for parking at the nearby car parks and this can cause anxiety for those waiting as a Ā£60 fine is not what you...
