โโAte karaage chicken and the pork ramen with black garlic oil with a pot of green tea. Service was ok though no check back if the food was ok. Atmosphere /decor was nice.
Food was a bit below adverage from the many other Japanses meals I've had. Karaage chicken pieces seamed comprised of several smaller 'off cuts' of chicken bound together by batter, as opposed to larger single pieces of battered thigh / breast meat. The pieces were slimy in texture inside due to the prevalence of batter running throughout and was a bit unpleasant, though tasted nice.
The black garlic completely blew out any underlying flavor of the ramen broth, leaving it one note and not very pleasant, with a monotonous pungent garlic taste throughout. The pork itself tasted nice but was not 'melt in the mouth' as I have come to expect with the rolled pork in ramen, instead being tough and thus the fat a bit unpleasant to get through. Other toppings generally fine, though with little love, comprising sliced narutomaki, pea pods, a mushroom, bountiful nori seaweed and half of a half decent ramen egg. Noodles were fine though nothing to write home about. I could not finish the bowl as the garlic flavor quickly became unpleasant, which is unusual for me as I dislike wasting food.
All in all, Liverpool is still waiting for its go too ramen joint. I cant comment on the sushi, though someone else's tempura appeared thick and heavy. The food here seems ok but is hindered by heavy missteps and a general lack of refinement. In general I would recommend Etsu for a truly outstanding...
ย ย ย Read moreWow, the best sushi and tempura place Iโve tried in Liverpool! From entering and being welcomed by a friendly host, sitting area is great for both individual and group reservations. Interior and tables: I sat at the bar as I was alone. Very comfortable chairs, clean and doesnโt smell. Attention to detail at the table was the first thing that caught my eye - you have a lovely little soy sauce pot with two small plates instead of a store-bought bottle, as well as cute salt jar with pink salt instead of the common salt shaker. Food: generous portions! I had eel maki, karaage chicken and tofu ramen. 6 small pieces of maki, super tasty and filling. You can taste the fresh ingredients. Karaage chicken was very hot, Iโd wait a minute before I bite into it. Non the less delicious, Iโd probably add some more sauce to it as it was very tasty. I was full by the time the ramen arrived as the portions were quite big. I wasnโt a fan of the tofu ramen - the bartered vegetables (sweet potato, courgette & okra) were properly cooked but the batter became soggy as it was soaking in the broth and it became like a purรฉe instead of a broth as it mixed. It was lacking this umami taste - no salt, no seasoning, even though they added chilli it didnโt come through. The noodles were quite a generous portion, maybe a bit too much compared to the broth and the size of the veggies. Overall great experience, Iโd definitely recommend and would come back. Sushi and street food id say are their strongest on the menu from my experience. Great value and portion...
ย ย ย Read moreArrived at 12:30 first people in. Ramen came 15 minutes after my mothers meal was put on the table, to which the ramen was the wrong order. Assumed the ramen may take a bit longer which is why i didnt say anything but for it then to be wrong was annoying. After taking away, took another 15 minutes for the avocado maki to get to us, then the correct ramen turned up another 10 minutes later Took an hour upon arriving to recieve the food which in the end wasnt that nice, oily, not very flavourful even with the garlic oil (which was not why the broth was oily, it was way more oily than any other ramen ive had with chilli oils on top) and the description of the miso ramen is not very descriptive, if it had stated the tempura veg would majoritly be tempura tofu i wouldnt have ordered it. Ramen also was just noodles, broth and some bamboo shoots. I assumed it came with an egg and fishcake atleast like id seen on TikTok reviews as i didnt see these as optional add ons so was a bit gutted as they are my favourite things, but couldโve been wrong about them not being on the menu. Not one to say anything in person but hopefully owners can take constructive criticism. Broth on the miso ramen was not great at all and couldnt taste any miso which usually is quite a strong tatse and couldnt taste do with a bit of a better description. Not much of an apology or slight knock off the bill was offered after multiple things being...
