We booked this location Jan 2022. It’s about a 20 minute walk from Kings Cross/Saint Pancras and between 2 stops on the Piccadilly line. The flat sits between Russell Square station and Holborn. (I’m not a fan of the Russell Square station because it’s so far underground and you have to take a lift to the street. Otherwise there’s a stairwell with 175 steps but they state it’s for emergency only.) Another reason I chose this location also was because the Piccadilly line goes straight to Heathrow. But, you can also take Uber which was about $75 USD.
We stayed in two different flats at this location. The one on the top floor consists of two floors. It’s absolutely amazing if you’re a group because it has four bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 people. It also has two kitchens and four bathrooms. Of course all the beds have linens, there were very clean towels, the flat was clean, and there was kitchen ware and if you needed something you could ask management like more pots and pans or whatever.
The second flat is on the first floor and it’s a bit more upscale with two bedrooms and two baths and a well fit kitchen.
This location is only about a five minute walk to the British Museum. At the Holborn station outside there’s a larger Sainsbury grocery, or there is a smaller one only about two blocks from the house. The area seemed safe with a couple of parks and we enjoyed our stay.
NOTE: they will expect you to clean your dishes, empty refrigerator and gather your garbage and put it outside before you leave. We were without Wi-Fi the night before we left and so we didn’t get the email alerting us of this until very early the next morning when we were rushing around to leave. We did manage to get it all done but it’s much better to know that...
Read moreArrived with my husband and 2 year old daughter from a long flight from Thailand to the Acorn reception building at 9.30pm only to find the reception building door was closed. It was freezing cold, raining and very windy as you would expect the weather to be in December. We kept pressing the buzzer to the building but to no avail. A few students from a neighbouring building came to pick up some post also pressed the buzzer. They gave us an emergency number to ring which we did, only to get an abrupt reply from the person on the other end who answered saying this was not an emergency and there was a security guard some where there who would come and deal with us and then hung up on us. Disgusting behaviour!!!!||At around 10.00pm a security guard came and let us into the building. We were absolutely fuming and very angry by now since our daughter was very cold and even coughing now and the security guard had to bare with most of our anger and frustration. He was very apologetic explaining he had to cover reception duties as well as his security duties which meant patrolling a number of buildings which could take up to 40 minutes. He was very helpful and went through the checking in process clearly and quickly.||We have travelled all over the world but this is the first and only place where we have had to wait outside the reception building in freezing cold conditions, windy weather and rain for up to 30 minutes. Disgraceful !!!!!!!!!!!!||We will never book with Acorn again and our advise to everyone is to avoid these cheapskates who can't even cover...
Read moreI have never dealt with such an unprofessional and incompetent bunch of employees in my life. If you want to be taken advantage of as a student, royally screwed over, and then charged for all of their mistakes, Acorn is the place for you! Let's talk amenities! The washer can fit max 4 pairs of jeans and be careful to separate your whites and darks because boy don't all of your clothes will be ruined! It takes about 3 cycles to get the dryer to dry your clothing, and even then most of the clothing is still somewhat damp. There's no elevator in the building so if you're not on the first floor, good luck hiking up the stairs! The building is so old that you can hear everything! meaning if people come in late at night you will without a doubt be woken up. The thing that got me most was the lack of privacy. Yes, Acorn is a (somewhat) serviced apartment (maybe once a week the cleaners come in and sweep the floor) BUT there were multiple times where Acorn employees entered my apartment unannounced. One time I was asleep and woke up to my door opening and and a tour coming through. I did not let them in nor did they inform me beforehand warning me that they were coming through. Overall, I highly do not recommend staying at Acorn. They are unbelievably unprofessional and overcharge everyone. YOU HAVE...
