I was excited about this place, often ordered Hawkes at other bars - unfortunately when we went to have a relaxed night out with friends, a staff member ripped up and threw my jacket in the bin, thinking it belonged to a different, disruptive customer who had nothing to do with me. (I was upstairs after moving moving to a bigger table, which I'd had to do because of an error made with my booking, but had accidentally left my jacket behind). Afterwards, security and other staff were unconcerned about my complaints, which culminated in security becoming aggressive - following us into the street after we exited, using profane and threatening language and attempting provoke us physically. It's worth noting that neither my partner or I were drunk; we'd just finished a meal and had our puppy with us. It was meant to be a very relaxed evening.
My complaints went unanswered for three days, and when I finally heard back, while the staff member who damaged and binned my jacked had been disciplined, my claims about the guard's behavior and my experience of feeling threatened and unsafe were dismissed - frustrating particularly as I see other negative reviews about the behaviour of security here. Then, rather than any offer of compensation for my damaged property I was offered a free meal, which I appreciate but feels directly at odds with my complaint about feeling unsafe and uncomfortable in their establishment. I've expressed my disappointment in this response directly to the owner already.
I rarely review and have never left a negative review but I feel strongly that Hawkes betrayed my trust and shows a lack of concern about the safety and wellbeing of its customers, and this makes me sad and angry, and something I'd like other customers to...
Read moreWas brought here by friends and love it. First time I came the kitchen was closed due to coronavirus complications but they let us get pizza from a local vendor which was amazing. Incredibly friendly service and a large variety of ciders which is quite a niche trade compared to how craft beer has took off, so really interesting to try something different. Amber is an amazing member of staff, for a Northerner in London provided incredible hospitality, chatted my ears off (which I loved) and had an expert knowledge of all the ciders including bars/breweries to try if they had collaborations with Hawkes. Especially love the Cyser (mead/cider combo). Took some real cider people from the South West and they approved! Would...
Read moreOne of my favourite bars in bermondsey, great staff, great food, amazing cider with such a great ever changing selection, but the security guard is a really bad joke. I went out for a smoke at some point to be informed on re-entry that I was "too drunk". This isn't the first time this has happened to me at this bar. The security guard tried to backtrack when he realized that by kicking me out he was removing more than half the people that were in there. There's a reason you guys were dead on a Saturday night! It's a shame but luckily Hawkes is situated amongst other, equally good bars without the power tripping security so we just went and spent our money elsewhere. Won't make the mistake to give you another chance...
