Part of me is tempted to keep this place a secret so it can remain a hidden gem, but that's not fair. Everyone should know about London Night Cafe so they have a chance to fall in love with it.
The concept is perfect; there are very few (if any) sober late night places in London. Don't get me wrong – I love a good night out at a bar or club. That being said, sometimes I want to hang out with a friend without alcohol or loud music. Sometimes, I want to meet new people in an environment where I can actually chat. Or, honestly, sometimes, I just want a place to panic-write my dissertation throughout the night that isn't a sterile library.
This place fulfills all of those desires, plus a few more (as a photographer, I am OBSESSED with the aesthetics of this place). The entire place has a fantastic techno-ethereal vibe. There are two floors to explore, with the top floor boasting a collection of books, sitting spaces, and free coffee/tea/biscuits. It's a fantastic place to chat with new people – the owner and everyone who comes to stay throughout the night are incredibly open to conversation (but will also equally respect if you'd rather be left alone to write a paper). I had chats about everything from AI risk to my favorite music to angry cats :) speaking of cats, if you're lucky, the owner's cat will come over to say hi, and he is a delight.
The lower floor is my personal favorite, with plenty of sitting space – both in the form of a few desk areas and a massive bed area where you can sprawl out a bit more. There's also a retro game console and a ball pit for moments you're feeling a bit more chill. There are phone chargers, wall sockets, and some great ambient soundscapes.
Eric, the owner, is incredibly kind and a great conversationalist. We had some fascinating discussions, and part of the reason I look forward to coming here is because Eric makes the entire environment so welcoming. You can do so much here: bring your own food, write a paper, chat with an incredibly interesting array of people, dive into a ball pit, do a mini photoshoot, read, enjoy the lights, or really just... exist past midnight – something you don't really find that much in this city anymore, unfortunately. The only thing you can't do is drink, and while there's plenty of drinking spaces throughout the city, it's rare to find a sober one.
London Night Cafe really is bringing back the third space in London, especially for the night owls. Highly recommend dropping by and checking it out for yourself.

Read moreTL;DR: Exceptional decor but small and full. Also, people were almost whispering or in silence - felt a bit like a library.
Went in with my friend for her Birthday on a Sunday night and had really high hopes based on what I saw on instagram.
We haven't booked in advance or anything - cause the place does walk ins. As soon as we walk in we feel... intimidated? Everyone just seemed to be in their peaceful space, and we were a disruption.
There was nowhere to sit on the main bit and everywhere we go was full and we got politely "kicked out".
The upstairs area is private but you can just walk through there, which is a bit funny.
The downstairs area is closed by a door and we tried to go in but got looks from the people that were there - a shame cause we later realised that the ball pit was there.
The bathroom is quite cool and I actually loved the rave mode button (might pop by just to press it).
All in all, everyone was very quiet. The place has an amazing aesthetic and it is a shame that the atmosphere that night was not matching it.
It just looked a bit crowded and small, despite having an amazing set of decor.
Maybe it was just us. I feel like going there on a less busy day might make...
