All around great hotel! All the staff we interacted with treated us well from check-in to check-out. The hotel's location is very close walking distance to Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast, which are both great attractions as is. Very close to both Tower Hill and Aldgate stations, or Liverpool St. in a pinch (which we did have to go to once for a service disruption along the line from Aldgate). Breakfast was fantastic - I don't think I've ever had beans as good as the ones we got here, lovely pastries too. Room was reasonably spacious for a London hotel. Our room did have a reasonably spacious lockbox for our important stuff. The gym in the basement was also surprisingly nice with a squat/bench press rack, which I most definitely used. I got all the bench presses I needed to maintain my fitness, though I was tired enough from the jet lag that I really couldn't go higher than normal. For any dumb Americans like me using the gym, the weights are in kilos, not pounds, remember it's a conversion factor of 2.2Ibs/kilo. Extra point for having two peloton machines in the gym - the one I used worked splendidly.
There's really nothing that I could truly complain about on the whole, though there are some quirks with this hotel that might be relevant for some. 1) the air conditioning in the rooms does seem to operate on some sort of timer. I never timed it to see exactly how long it would take to turn off but after having pressing the button, for X amount of time it would run before turning off (including overnight). For us this wasn't really a big deal as the weather was surprisingly temperate during our stay in London (during early August, ~75-80F for my fellow Americans), but I could see that being a potential problem during the more hot and humid days in the summertime. Basically for us all this amounted to was pushing a button whenever we came back from our sightseeing or in the middle of the night if I woke up from the room getting a little warm - truly a first world problem if I ever saw one and not a reason to skip this hotel. 2) as with any major big city, there are some areas nearby that maybe aren't the most gentrified portions of town, in our experience especially if you're walking towards the Liverpool St. station. While we did not have any issues with theft or related crimes during our stay, we also did our utmost to mainly travel during daylight hours, and generally took the tube back to Aldgate during late hours if we were out later (it's literally 5 minutes away from the hotel walking at a good pace). As with any big city - keep your most important valuables at the hotel if possible, and if you must bring it, have it in a bag that wraps around your body securely or can't easily be picked out of.
Anyway wow this review got much longer than I planned. TLDR - great hotel, great food, great gym, weird room AC timer, (but not unworkable), big city precautions recommended. All around, good work Hilton, it was absolutely...
Read moreReview#2 Following our previous stay where we encountered some very minor issues but received fantastic customer service we booked the hotel again for two nights in October 2024. This was our third stay at the Canopy Hilton and it was perfect. We received a complimentary upgrade to a suite which was wonderful, plenty of space and delightful decor. The room was very clean and the King size bed was super comfy. Breakfast at the hotel was great with plenty of choice on offer. The staff (from housekeeping, the restaurant and reception) were polite, helpful and very friendly. Overall we had a superb experience. We will always consider this hotel for trips to London as we can be sure of a high quality stay in a good location.
It’s a nice hotel and close to two underground stations so easily accessible.
EDIT#1 The hotel have gone out of their way to rectify all the issues we encountered and have explained how each of them have been remedied. This is the most exceptional customer service I have ever received from a hotel and I am super impressed. It’s definitely FIVE STARS from me. As I said previously, the issues encountered would not have stopped us from returning to the Canopy hotel but after this exceptional customer service I would now go out of my way to stay here. I wish all hotels could listen to their customers. Simply fantastic!
Review #1 The staff were friendly but an issue did arise with the payment system during check-in and this distracted the staff members meaning we were not given a proper introduction to the hotel (i.e where the lifts were located, check out times, available facilities etc.) which other guest were receiving.
When we arrived in the room there was a small stain on the duvet cover at the centre of the bed which wasn’t great but the cover had clearly been laundered (it was an old stain).
Unfortunately, there was a very annoying and frequent sound in the room (like a mobile phone vibrating loudly on a surface) which I think was coming from the building pipe-works and which was very irritating when trying to sleep, it was present for the duration of our stay (two nights).
Hoping for a bit of a lie-in, we set our alarm for 9am but we were awoken by doors repeatedly banging very loudly and furniture being dragged around before the alarm went off. I can only assume this was the staff cleaning other rooms. I really don’t think they were very considerate of the guests (doors could be secured to stop all the banging).
Also, as per the room instructions, we left our two used towels hanging in the bathroom so we could reuse them and save on the use of water for laundering. However, the two towels were removed and replaced with a single towel which had a large hole in it.
For a four star hotel these points were disappointing but let’s be honest, it could’ve been a lot worse. It wouldn’t stop me re-visiting the hotel. Overall the rooms are a good size with nice, modern decor and they are clean and...
Read moreMy husband and I are loyal Hilton members and always look forward to staying at Hilton properties when we travel (we've stayed at Hilton's in the US, Mexico, and UK). We chose this location to celebrate our wedding anniversary because of the typically high standard we’ve come to expect from the brand. Unfortunately, this stay fell short in a few important ways.
We did appreciate the warm congratulations at check-in and the thoughtful room decoration—such a sweet touch. We were also given a mini bottle of champagne, which was kind, although we were a bit surprised at the size of the bottle (was more appropriate for 1 person instead of 2 to split). On a previous anniversary trip to a Hilton in Mexico, we were given a full-sized bottle, which felt more in line with Hilton's reputation for hospitality.
Things started to unravel when we tried to get a quick drink and a bite at the bar and café downstairs. My husband has gluten and dairy allergies, and unfortunately, there were no food options available for him—not even fries or a small snack. This was a first for us at a Hilton and quite disappointing.
We had also been looking forward to the rooftop bar, one of the key reasons we chose this location. Service was slow to start, and once we were greeted, we were told there was a minimum spend for the indoor seating—which was fine—but then informed there was an additional £10 charge just to sit outside. That seemed excessive for guests simply looking to enjoy a quick drink before dinner. As a note to future guests- the rooftop bar is separate from the hotel so you can't charge to your room.
Later that evening, when we returned to our room, the TV wasn’t working. We called the front desk, and the solution offered was to move to a different room. Unfortunately, by that time—after midnight—packing up and relocating wasn’t realistic, especially for a one-night stay.
The next morning, I discovered the shower head was broken, spraying water in all directions. At that point, we were disappointed that we didn’t bother reporting it.
We truly wanted to love our stay here and expected a memorable, relaxing experience to mark a special occasion. Instead, it felt like a series of small letdowns that added up—especially considering the premium price we paid for just one night. We will still stay at Hilton's moving forward- just...
