I was in London at the tail end of the covid restrictions last year and was unable to get in here so when i returned this year to attended the Taylor Hawkins Concert i was more than excited to take care of my FOMO and check out the vibes at Discount Suit Company. The first night we checked it out was the Friday and we were luckily able to reserve a couch in the corner. The whole experience from start to finish was incredible. The intial walk down that desolated London street to a small vibrant basement bar is just the start of the fun. All the staff were incredible and the cocktails were perfection regardless if they were ordered from the menu or you stated a preference on liquor and taste. There was a DJ spinning 45s and our crew was in what a song Heaven with some serious deep cuts from the funk/disco era. Around us people were loving the vibe and it almost felt like we had been transported in time to house party from years gone by. I came solo on the Sunday also and though a lot more mellow it was the perfect vibe for me as i was able to sit at the bar, chat with Chris who was tops all weekend and order some more cocktails. It also gave me a chance to properly soak in this beautiful little bar and do another shot of Shankys Whip which i need to get a bottle of. All in all this is a absolute belter of a spot to go to on any given night. Unlike me don’t wait a year to get rid of the FOMO,...
Read moreA superb little speakeasy, apparently unhampered by its hidden location as a lot of people seemed to arrive without a booking. Luckily we had booked a table, and even though we arrived a minute or so after the 15 minute grace period and the place was already rammed to capacity, our server Mickey still seated us and was a legend all night. Be warned, this place is cosy. There is a small area with comfy low seating at one end of the basement bar, and three small tables for two with high stools against the wall opposite the bar. There's probably room for about six people to sit at the bar. Other than that, expect to stand and realise you will probably be in someone's way. The huge popularity of this bar is perhaps due to the fact its drinks prices are wonderfully competitive for London. At time of writing all individual cocktails were under ten pounds and a bottle of wine under thirty. We thoroughly enjoyed the funky cold Medina and the Mr Susan, a take on a Pisco sour, but the best thing about this place was the service. Although he argued that he was only doing his job, Mickey was the only server this side of the bar all night, and managed not only to serve tables swiftly and hospitably, but also to calmly manage the unrealistic expectations of some rather demanding patrons throughout the night. Without Mickey it might have been a very different experience, but as it was, it...
Read moreI'd emailed a couple of weeks to try and get a reservation but had no luck. However, Andy recommended popping down to the bar anyway - I'm glad we did as we got the last 2 spaces ^-^
The bartender who served us yesterday evening was great (guy with the hat and moustache); friendly without being overbearing, and he was a pleasure to watch work. Another sign of a pro is how they handle multiple orders and customers, and everyone behind the bar was clearly capable of that. It's great going somewhere where people take pride in their work and damn well show it.
First up we had an Old Fashioned and a T-Bomb. Then a Pisco Sour and Salt-Amontes. Then we both had The Project. Even with so many contrasts, it's so hard to pick a favourite. The T-Bomb was refreshingly balanced and fruity. The Salt-Amontes was a lot of fun and managed to have sweetness without being sickly. And The Project was quite a new taste for me with its smokey, musky and ginger flavours. I'm no a connoisseur, but I can say with confidence that this is a great place to go for cocktails.
Anyway, enough rambling from me. I just wanted to show my appreciation for a great start to our...
