Monday 9 September Gochujang air fried chicken & pork slices deep flavour & texture 4.7/5, pork bone broth with chicken essence full of flavour & texture, Chinese mushrooms, black fungus, ginger, garlic, soy, fish sauce, sweet potato vermicelli, with sweet heart ❤️ cabbage & spinach cooked in Gochujang paste, not bad, i luv plain steamed cabbage with garlic, just like mum made. Never had Gochujang b4 but the back taste of chillie not unpleasant, not too bad 4.5/5.

I prefer the spare ribs from Chinatown supermarkets, smaller. Overall mildly spicy with a kick, I only uses a small amount of Gochujang paste as it was my first time. I has to cook the vermicelli a lot longer than recommended 3 minutes, thicker than usual, unlikely to buy this again, very chewy but not for me.

I did marinaded the meat with Gochujang, soy and fish sauce but much less than I did the other day, about right.

Simple Gochujang marinade fried chicken https://m.youtube.com/shorts/8f0tgH1yH4s

Just bought gochujang @3.05gbp, much cheaper than local Asian mats 5gbp to 4.5gbp, plus an assortment of Chinese grocery. Getting bus home rather than tube.

Just tried store bought cheung fung, dried shrimp wit spring onions, not bad flavour, @2.45gbp would buy again but add large prawns for my own affordable...

The food was quite good. However the whole experience at this restaurant was let down by what happened at the end.

The service was not good at all, with staff constantly being grumpy to all customers, yet very happy to chat amongst themselves. The smiles on staff faces were reserved for each other.

They insisted that the 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge was not removable on their system. LIE Then they proceeded to laugh at us and tell us that all restaurants have to charge this in the UK. LIE Then we told them that we weren't tourists and they said all restaurants in Chinatown do this. LIE Then they said that if we didnt pay the service charge, the staff would not be paid. A cause for concern if true.

When we finally insisted on the removal of the service charge, they went away and came back with an additional tea charge to the bill which wasn't there before. By this point we had already argued back and forth for almost 10 minutes so we paid this and...

Loon Fung has been one of my stalwart Chinese supermarkets over the decades. This is the original Chinatown branch. Firstly, I have to manage expectations for those not familiar with Chinese supermarkets. This will not be like your trip to Tesco or Sainsbury’s. It will be narrower and there will no Clubcard points

However, inside (and out), you will find a treasure trove of a whole host of Chinese ingredients and food. Fresh veg and exotic food tick. Curry sauces tick. Spices tick. Snacks tick. Frozen food section tick. Fresh tofu, noodles and wonton wrappers tick. Butcher’s offering normal cuts through to pig ears tick. Fishmonger tick

The staff speak good English and are helpful in tracking down stuff for you if you can’t find it amongst the burgeoning shelves

They’ve tried to make checkout more efficient with a single queue

Loon Fung, it’s been great having you in my...

Great shop for oriental produce - Bakery, sauces, noodles, the lot! The buns are to die for. My favourite are the Coconut Buns with cream, they are absolutely delicious. Big but light and fluffy with cream on the inside and topped with desiccated coconut! I decided to buy and try the Roast Pork buns and they were tasty, especially when I put one in the microwave for a min to warm up a bit. You can actually see the pieces of pork. The buns are big but light and airy. If you like Chinese Roast Pork then these are for you! Funnily enough the Pineapple buns don't actually taste of Pineapple but they are very nice! The Satay sauce from there is authentic and better than packet mixtures you get in general supermarkets. Prices a lil on the steep side but good for one off treat if you don't frequent regularly but keep in mind you are paying for produce/items that are imported/freshly basked!

I took a few foreign friends to have Chinese food. The overall style was traditional Hong Kong-style cuisine, and the taste was decent. One surprising dish was the stir-fried morning glory with garlic, which was unexpectedly tender and delicious. The sweet and sour pork with pineapple was tasty, but the portion was very small—not worth the price. However, the service was disappointing. The male waiter didn’t speak English, and when we asked to split the bill, they overcharged us on purpose, which is bad business practice. When we ordered, they even complained that we didn’t order enough food. The attitude was arrogant and dismissive. There are plenty of great Chinese restaurants in London, so I won’t be coming back to this one.
