Remembering that they give out free coffee vouchers for 5* reviews here’s my review....
*My recommendation would be not to live here. The room was too hot even when I arrived in September and only got worse in the summer months. The room was noisy with thin walls and often woken by people making noise in corridor *
Awesome accommodation if you want to live in a room that you can’t open the windows in even when it reaches 35 degrees. (May have been hotter at one point because my thermometer was delivered once the room had cooled a little) But although you won’t be able to sleep or stay in the room for long due to the heat you won’t be able to jump out the window which is managements biggest concern... The heat in the room caused me to have to move out for months of my contract as I couldn’t concentrate or study in those temperatures.
The infestation of silverfish was a nice touch too which went on for months. Although reported twice and was meant to be getting fixed while I was on a week holiday hadn’t even been written down until the 3rd time I mentioned it and by this point I’d found them in my bed and had bought my own insect killer. (Note: I could cope with them in the bathroom while waiting on the staff to get an exterminator just not in my living areas which was the final straw)
Don’t get a studio. You’ll be woken up by people screaming in the corridor, running up and down, and slamming off doors.
Also don’t expect them to help find anyone to take over your contract. I asked to move out in February and was told that if anyone was looking for a room I’d be notified as there are often “a lot of requests for the summer”. Asked repeatedly as was meant to be moving in with a friend. Only to be told months later that they were filling the rooms people had already moved out of even though I’d asked months before and could move with a few days notice.
Staff were okay and helpful on the most part until the end of my contract. I had a conversation and thought I’d arranged to keep my car in the grounds for 2 nights but had forgot to confirm my arrival time due to my gran dying and having to attend the funeral the day before my car was meant to be there. This lead to 3 members of staff screaming at me and my friend and for the last month refusing to speak to me or being rude.
To balance the review:
Staff are mostly helpful. There’s a gym and study area/lounge that’s been done up recently with monthly events. The room itself is a decent size and modern. Issues or breakages are normally quickly resolved. The location is good, close to Liverpool Street, Aldgate, Shoreditch, and Whitechapel.
However you could get a lot more in this area for your money and not be...
Read moreI would recommend this accomodation to everyone. The staff is the friendliest I have ever encountered, they are nice, patient and always ready to help. It is clear that the accomodation focuses on the students: they give out friday treats, you can always ask for help and they throw excellent parties where you can meet other people in the building and make friends. Guests are also welcome, which was great since my family sometimes came to visit and they could stay with me in my room. The location is also great: Magenta House is 8 min away (maximum) from the tube station and it is connected to all parts of London via bus. There are a lot of supermarkets in the area where you can find anything you need and also lots of small business. The only con would be the laundry room: the drier eats your money since you sometimes need to operate it 3 times in order for your clothes to be dry (which also takes a lot of time). I am aware that there have been complaints but the staff has not improven the situation yet. As an Erasmus student I have to add that this accomodation is quiet. Maybe you will find friends in your flat but it is most likely that you will have to meet people somewhere else because Magenta House shows a most likely peaceful and relaxed environment. I had to flee the country due to the COVID-19 situation so my stay was cut short but if I could I would go back...
Read moreLiving at iQ Magenta House has been a really positive experience overall. The location is excellent, super central, with easy access to Aldgate East station, Brick Lane, and plenty of great food spots and cafes. It’s ideal for students who want to be close to both uni and the buzz of East London. There is also a mosque nearby.
The rooms are clean, well-furnished, and having an ensuite bathroom is a huge plus. The shared kitchens are spacious and come with all the essentials, and the building itself is well-maintained. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and any maintenance issues I had were sorted quickly. Especially Mohamed and Mariah and Paul. I also appreciate the secure entry and 24/7 support and it definitely adds peace of mind. The guards at night are always alert and working to the best of their capabilities, making the students feel secure and comfortable.
The only small area for improvement would be the kitchen ventilation. After cooking, smells do tend to linger a bit longer than expected. It’s not a major issue, but better airflow or extraction could definitely make the shared kitchen experience even more comfortable.
All in all, iQ Magenta offers a great mix of convenience, comfort, and community. I’d happily recommend it to students looking for quality accommodation in a lively...
