Sadly the management at this restaurant either doesn't understand UK consumer law or is unwilling to implement said law.
We ordered the murgh pillow alongside an extra piece of chicken roast. When the food arrived we were not satisfied with the taste nor quality of the murgh pillow. The chicken appeared to have not been marinated adequately and seemed to just be a piece of tandoori chicken with roast sauce smeared on top almost as an afterthought. Notifying the waiter of our displeasure with respect to the food, we promptly asked him to take the dishes back from whence they came having only sampled one mouthful.
At this point we were inclined to leave the restaurant and not order anything further. However, we were offered the option of ordering an alternative item from the menu. We took it upon ourselves to give the restaurant a chance to redeem themselves and ordered the lamb bhuna kichuri. When it arrived, we found the kichuri to have much more flavour and to have better execution than the first round of dishes. We eat most of the kichuri and asked to have the remainder as a takeaway.
It is at this point proceedings took a shocking turn for the worse. I approached the counter to pay for the meal and was shocked to be asked to pay for the two dishes we had sent back in addition the kichuri! The manager refused to accept that we did not need to pay for the items even though we had sent the items back almost completely untouched. He then subsequently was willing to only take the chicken roast off the bill but still maintained we needed to pay for the murgh pillow. Following a conversation with the manager (which lasted almost 15 mins) we were asked to leave the restaurant without paying even for the meal we had eaten (kichuri) despite my insistence that we pay for it.
Our visit to Hajji Nanna Biryani was a thoroughly unpleasant experience which left a very bad taste in the mouth both metaphorically and figuratively. Suffice to say, I will not be visiting this establishment again...
Read moreI always love coming to this restaurant whenever my wife and I come over to shop around Whitechapel. I usually go for the borta but lately I’ve been hankering for beef shatkhora. I made the mistake of getting naan bread, which I thought was freshly made only to find that their naan breads are not fresh. I couldn’t eat it and asked for boiled rice after and was grateful they didn’t charge me for the naan bread. I couldn’t finish my order, not due to any lacking of taste, but the heat for the day made it hard to eat. Keep up the great Bangladeshi dishes and maybe consider reducing the cost of the borta to maybe half the price by reducing the portion size, that way it won’t be so pricey to choose more then a few borta’s at the same time to have with the rice. I wouldn’t mind if the size of the portion was less then half with the price significantly reduced so if I were to spend around £8 for at least 4 borta’s and add a plate of boiled rice I should be able to finish all 4 borta’s. I don’t know how many varieties of borta’s there are out there, I’d like a few more varieties, perhaps an extra 4 or 5. I do understand it may not be possible to change the menu but it’s something that I would personally like.
The other factor is the atmosphere. I really admire the service of the staff but that restaurant has great potential. Being in the heart of banglatown, I would love to see the restaurant looking more like the traditional restaurants back from Bangladesh, such as in Dhaka and Sylhet, not the new modern ones that look similar to western restaurants but the traditional restaurants before the new modern ones popped up.
Imagine you are able to provide traditional Bangladeshi dishes from different regions in an atmosphere that gives a feeling of nostalgia and the star of the whole experience is the traditional Bangladeshi dishes made by...
Read moreI recently visited Haji Nannas Biryani on Whitechapel Road with my family, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The food did not meet our expectations. We dined in and also ordered some dishes for takeaway.
The Kassi Biryani scored a 5 out of 10 from us. It lacked the desired spiciness, and it seemed like the food wasn't freshly cooked. The meat appeared to have been cooked a few days earlier.
Moving on to the Morog Pilaw, it fared slightly better with a 7 out of 10. However, the pilaw rice did not taste fresh, which was a letdown.
The Borhani received a low score of 4 out of 10. It had an unpleasant taste, resembling salty water, rather than the flavorful Borhani we expected.
Kala Bhuna also disappointed with a 4 out of 10 rating. It didn't live up to the name of Kala Bhuna, lacking the expected flavors. It’s more like Beef bhuna.
Lastly, we ordered Halim for takeaway, and it was a dismal 2 out of 10. It was so disappointing that we had to discard it. It didn't appear to be freshly made.
Overall, our visit to Haji Nannas Biryani on Whitechapel Road was not up to the mark. The lack of freshness in the food and the taste discrepancies left us unsatisfied. We hope that they can improve their food quality to match the expectations of their customers...
