Despite being a proud Mexican eatery no one speaks Spanish. I ordered the vegetarian burrito. They only had few scraps of the vegetables. The girl said she would give me extra guacamole to compensate. The burrito ended up being really full. I suspected it was going to be a nightmare to eat it as it was, also given the fact that they only wanted to give me, initially, a small napkin. So I asked the girl if she could cut the burrito in half. She said they're not allowed because of "cross contamination". I didn't understand the relationship between my question and her answer... I said: "you can use a clean knife and there won't be any cross contamination". Still she said they're not allowed. It was a very frustrating first experience at this restaurant. The reguetón music doesn't help either. The positives: the girl was very friendly and despite everything she tried to help. The burrito was really good, big and cheap. Nice decoration.

I don't even know where to start. I went to this restaurant (if you could even call it that) yesterday with a friend of mine. We ordered the tacos and nachos. To start off the tacos were cold, and wet. How were they wet? God bloody knows, the chicken inside was burnt and cold and was overall inedible. Moving on to the nachos which, as you can tell, were terrible. At first they placed 15 nachos inside the box? I asked the staff to put in more because i wasn't paying 8 quid of 20 nachos!! The cheese wasn't even melted on and all of the topping were cold. The overall eating experience was a 1/10, keeping in mind these two items racked up to a whooping 18 quid! The service was also appalling, the guy making our food gave us so much attitude when my friend and I were being very polite and friendly. You could not pay me to go back!!!

I don't know if I went at a bad time or what happened, but I was so disappointed with the food here. I lived in Mexico and this is not what tacos are. I should have known when the woman behind the counter took out HUGE flour tortillas to make the tacos - if they were out of taco tortillas why didn't they just say? The place could really use some finesse to make it truly chilango, for example chopping the Cilantro and not just putting huge sprigs on the tacos. I asked for Pico de gallo on mine and they poured a load of the liquid on it at well meaning they fell apart instantly. Overall the taste was okay but these are not authentic and they could literally just put a few more minutes into incredient prep and teaching them how to serve properly.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 6 YEARS AGO. Chilango Islington is amazing. Kind and incredibly capable staff, fresh ingredients, good portions for a good price! Definitely the best place to eat in Angel. I've been coming here regularly for almost a year and every experience has been fantastic. The new vegan menu? Absolutely delicious. 100% recommend. EDIT AS OF 31/10/2024 Chilango has lost everything that made it great in the last 6 years, I can’t understand why they are even still open. My last meal was terrible like actually vile it taste cheap and cold and why on earth do you guys always ignore the order notes? I hate peppers I hate hate hate them. Why was my burrito stuffed full of cold barely cooked peppers?!? Honestly don’t waste your money here they don’t even have a working phone line you can’t even double check your order is what you asked for cause they guys are won’t do more than a skim of the notes. You guys used to be my favourite place, now I feel like actually blocking you on the delivery apps IF that was even an option. I can’t stand the idea of how much money I’ve spent on burritos withOUT peppers and gotten the EXACT OPPOSITE. zero stars out of zero. You guys are worst than those ghost kitchens on the delivery apps at least i understand that...

I’m a regular at Chilango Islington and I am usually generally happy with my experience. But today, I joined a 7 strong queue to order my burrito and waited a while. During my wait, 3 people ahead of me walked out looking very frustrated. While I continued to wait, I could see Deliveroo orders coming through every few seconds and watched the staff prepare about 5 Deliveroo orders then serve one customer in the store. I finally asked a staff member if they’re prioritising Deliveroo orders and informed him that people are walking out. The manager (or who seemed to be) then came over top and argued that they’re serving ‘one-for-one’, to which another customer waiting in line spoke up and said she had been watching and that simply was not the case. The manager then had the nerve to say that if we wanted a quicker service then we should order through Deliveroo. I couldn’t believe this treatment since I had walked all the way from my home to order a burrito and this was the service I received. Then when I finally ordered my burrito, it was rolled so aggressively that it split all the way down the side from top to bottom. I had a really awful experience and I’m really disappointed as the other manager is usually really nice and friendly...

Service was terrible and the menu on the wall didn't have all the food that was available. When I asked the staff what tacos there were available, they just said yes. Very unhelpful and were more interested in talking between themselves than serving customers. I ordered tacos with guacamole, the guacamole was ice cold and made the just cooked meat really cold and kind of ruined the meal. Though without the guacamole it would have been a fine taco

£5 for a jarrito is abysmal considering they are 50c in the States.

The decoration was quite whack, with pictures of scantily clad women in bikinis and Mexican wrestlers on every poster. I think their interior decorator has watched too much Nacho libre, maybe a holiday to real Mexico will inspire some accuracy to what a Mexican food place should actually look like.

It was like if I had walked into a French cafe and all the pictures were of men holding baguettes with black and white striped shirts on.

I've had better experience at other chilangos, but won't be returning to this one.

Also, Benito's Hat is better...
