We recently looked for a professional oriental carpet cleaning and mending service, and on the strength of previous reviews we called a number of companies to discuss their services. Mr Behnam of Oriental Rug Services was one of those invited to come over and quote us for the work.

We were immediately impressed by his incredible knowledge of our many rugs, identifying their age and value, where they were made, the materials and techniques used and the history of the designs. On the strength of his experience, advice on what work we needed to do to preserve our rugs, his competitive pricing and previous reviews we engaged him.

He took the carpets several at a time, and returned with each batch always when he said he would, showing us detailed photos and videos of the work he had carried out - not only had they been expertly cleaned and mended but he had gone to extra lengths to make many necessary small repairs to other rugs which he had noticed needed doing whilst they were in his care, all at no extra cost. Mr Behnam has a unique attitude to his work, and his passion for oriental carpets and his enthusiasm for delivering excellent customer service is very evident.

Each time he returned with our rugs he supplied underlays (which we paid for) but he had cut them to size and helped us clean the floors, put them down and lay the rugs down on top, making us aware of their correct orientation based on the direction of the weave and light in the room.

Shortly after the rugs had been returned, we were unfortunately victims of the flash floods in July and all our floors and rugs were drenched with dirty storm water. He came over that same evening, helped to remove water from our floors, rolled up the carpets and, being concerned about colour run, immediately took them back to his business premises that night and spent two hours to remove the water and leave them to dry before assessing any potential damage the following day. He re-washed them all and treated two for colour run. Certainly his immediate attention helped to save them from more damage.

It is so refreshing to meet such a reliable, punctual, customer focussed, caring and passionate individual as Mr Behnam, and it gives me great pleasure to leave this review.

This individual is insincere. He simply transports the rugs to a warehouse in staples corner in NW London, where they do all the work and wash the rugs and he takes a middleman cut. He has no overheads and does not operate from a store front, and certainly does none of the labour himself.

1/2 of my rugs returned damaged. First time service user with this particular company, have previously had my other rugs washed and so I’m well aware of the process. I was expecting the outcome to be no different this time around, esp. in light of positive reviews. He took the rugs in for servicing, and returned them 2 weeks later. 1/2 returned with rough bristles and had worn significantly in some areas, shedding a ton of fibres. When I pointed this out on site, he advised that it required a second go-over as there was prior moth activity, but at what cost? I have hoovered the rug several times and the fibres are still shedding, and I’m concerned that it has been damaged beyond repair.

I then queried what cleaning agent he used, he responded ‘laundry washing up powder’ despite previously asserting that he strictly uses a vegetable dye shampoo/natural cleaning agent with a good Ph balance on Persian rugs as it is more gentle. Laundry powder is harsh, and so it is therefore no wonder that the rug is shedding so many fibres.

Sadly cannot recommend. I still accounted for the fees in full despite my complaints, merely out of moral principle. Lesson learnt and moving forward I will stick to my former rug cleaner who albeit more expensive, is reliable...

Cant recommend Oriental Rug Services enough! Professional attitude, very communicative and responsive, on time and very good price for the service. I had a carpet cleaning job for an 80 years old hand made nomad rug. i was extremely worried about who can handle my rug and clean it without damaging this lovely and very sentimental rug. When i contact, i got a quick response (less than 24 hours). when Mr. Behnam came over to assess the rug, he showed me pictures and extensive videos of his workshop and how they wash every carpet/rug and take care of repairs and etc. By this time, i was feeling convinced that he knows his craft and he can evidence his quality work too. That said, after giving him my rug, and getting it cleaned i was even more surprised that he delivered earlier than promised. I should emphasize the rug looked fantastic. then he showed me how they have been handling and taking care of my rug for the past week. It was such a great thing to be able to see what your rug has been going through when it was away from you and how carefully and professionally they handle every process.

On a separate note, i asked Mr. Behnam for advice on carpet breaks. I have had few carpet breaks before but the one he recommended (which i ended up getting) was so much better. It gave a bit of depth to my rug too. Now that i have found a reliable and high quality service, I am going to ask them to wash my rug every year!
