Lahpet is a fantastic, modern-chic Burmese restaurant in Shoreditch. As soon as you arrive you are greeted with warm and welcoming service and if you’re lucky you’ll be seated at the bar where you can spend your meal-time watching incredible cocktails be shaken and stirred.

Lahpet is home to Burmese food with some traditional classis dishes such as the Tea Leaf Salad and rich spiced curries. The menu is split into small plates, large plates, bowls (soups and noodles) and sides, and everything looks seriously delicious!

We opted for the following from the Small Plates:

Lahpet Thohk (tea Leaf salad) with pickled tea, double fried beans, cabbage, tomato, chilli, dried shrimp, sesame seeds, garlic oil and peanuts £5 Ginger Salad with pickled ginger, double fried beans, cabbage, tomato, shallots, shallot oil and peanuts £7 Balachaung Dumplings with dried shrimp, garlic, ginger, chilli, peanut oil and shallot vinegar £4.50 for 3 (£1.50 for each additional dumpling) Yellow Pea Paratha – flat bread with ginger, shallots, chilli, mint and lime £5

From the Large Plates, Bowls and Sides we had:

Pork and Mustard Green Curry – slow cooked pork shoulder with pickled mustard greens, star anise, pea shoots and peanuts £12.5 House Rice (coconut rice) £3.50 Tofu Nway – silky tofu soup, rice noodles, pickled mustard greens, pea shoots, tofu fritters, sweet soy and peanuts £12.50

The word “salad” for both the tea leaf and the ginger salads just doesn’t do these dishes justice. Each had an unexpected combination of beautiful flavours and textures, with one of my favourites being the crunch of the peanuts. Out of the two, the Ginger Salad just blew us away. The flavours of the ginger and the shallots against the crunch of the cabbage and peanuts were incredible.

We absolutely loved the dumplings and the flat bread too. Great things definitely do come in small packages with the super cute little dumplings! They were so soft and filled with delightful flavours with a great kick of chilli. The flatbread was crispy and moorish and gave a real homely sense with the warm chilli filling.

Our mains lived up to the high expectation our starters served us. The pork and mustard curry was a wonderful dish with large chunks of soft, succulent pork in a rich sauce. The side of the house rice with its delicate notes of sweet coconut really complimented this meal.

We were impressed with the Tofu Nway which was a stunning looking dish. It was incredibly filling with its thick rich, peanutty, tofu soup. The tofu fritters were a great addition to the dish and the pickled mustard greens gave this dish a great balance of being not too sweet.

After such an incredible, sweet and rich meal, we very much enjoyable our fruity sorbet!

During our meal we enjoyed two wonderful cocktails as well. One was the Ngapali Breeze (£9.50). This consisted of coconut rum, amaretto, pineapple water, sherbet, lime, glazed pineapple and topped off with a tapioca chip to eat (thin wafer of deep fried cassava root). It was strong, tropical, sweet and very enjoyable! The second was the Ginger Club, a gorgeous pink cocktail consisting of vanilla vodka, ginger, lime and bitters – absolutely delightful!

What a fantastic time we had at Lahpet! Not only did we have an outstanding meal but we received exceptionally wonderful service too. This is a highly recommended Burmese restaurant in...

Went for dinner there Saturday night with a group t of 10 (on two separate tables of course) to celebrate my 40th birthday. I should preface this by saying that I've lived in Myanmar for the last two years and really love the food there, especially the tea leaf salad (which this restaurant is named after), so I have some context of what great Burmese food can taste like. I want to start by saying that the staff and service were absolutely excellent throughout. They had found the perfect formula of being attentive without being overbearing and were friendly, polite and helpful too. The setting and atmosphere are also great; smart and relaxed at the same time and not pretentious or trying too hard! In terms of the food it was a bit more mixed. The starters were had were great (fried tofu, pea fritters and something else which I can't remember with a lovely dipping sauce), the ginger salad was good too, but the tea leaf salad didn't quite live up to ones you get as a matter of course in Myanmar. Admittedly, it's probably not easy to get hold of the tea leaves here but my feeling was that there weren't pickled enough and there wasn't much of a kick in terms of chilli, which was a shame - some tea leaf salads in Myanmar can be very spicy whilst also having a more subtle variety of flavours. The main courses were mixed. The shan noodles were not of the sticky variety (which are my favourite when in Myanmar) and although the dish looked really impressive, it was a bit watery and lacked the depth of flavour which I associate with shan noodles. The coconut chicken and fried bream by all accounts were very good. Despite a few niggles with the food (which may be partly because of my very high expectations for Burmese food), the overall experience was very enjoyable and as mentioned, the staff and overall level of service was excellent. Oh and they have some great...

Prepare to have your taste buds blown away because I just had the most mind-blowingly delicious food in London! 🌟 Every single bite was an explosion of flavors that left me speechless and craving for more. This culinary experience was on a whole new level!

Let's talk about those chicken noodles. Oh my goodness, they were beyond addictive! Each mouthful was an irresistible blend of tender chicken, perfectly cooked noodles, and a medley of spices that danced on my palate. It was a flavor symphony that had me completely hooked!

And let's not forget about the beef curry. It was a masterpiece of culinary perfection! The beef was cooked to absolute perfection, so tender and juicy, and the curry sauce was an explosion of aromatic spices that took my taste buds on a wild adventure. It was pure bliss in every single bite!

But wait, there's more! The parathas on the side were the cherry on top of this gastronomic delight. They were warm, flaky, and oh-so-buttery, adding that extra touch of perfection to an already incredible meal. It was the ultimate combination that sent my taste buds into a frenzy!

I'm already counting down the minutes until I can go back and indulge in this flavor extravaganza once again. This place has truly set the bar high for culinary excellence in London, and I can't wait to explore more of their tantalizing creations.

If you're a true foodie, this is an experience you simply cannot miss. Trust me, it will take your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride of pure delight. Get ready to be blown away by the tastiest food London...

Being unfamiliar with Burmese cuisine, we took the opportunity for a special occasion to come here. Really upbeat atmosphere, sharing a long table on bar stools, the availability of the booths seem be on specific booking request. If you want a booth ask for one. Starters wise, really good as a sharing experience, especially as a lot of them were vegan or could be made that. Price to portion ratio was also very good for a starter, we recommend the fritter platter (kidney bean and ginger Mandalays were the best if you’re picking solo ones). The tea leaf salad polarised us, think pickled bottom-of-the-pot tea leaves. Bitter and sour, for some of us in a good way, for some of us bad ! For the mains, tofu nway is essentially a silken tofu bechamel sauce - whilst it was heavy on the tummy , it was a good portion size for £14. Due to the volume, the flavour became a little bland, a chilli oil or fresh spring onions/ chilli would have worked well, or a little bit of zest. Drinks overpriced as a standard. As expected. In-house Kombucha just tasted like juice for a measly £4. Overall would we actively recommend the restaurant? Probably not. But if someone was going here we wouldn’t say don’t go.
