If you are a person of colour, or follow a faith other than Christianity, I would caution you before attending this establishment. I experienced extremely prejudiced and discriminatory behaviour from the white tourists visiting from other European countries. When I entered a room and sat down to appreciate a piece of art, the group of tourists who were already there immediately began leaving one by one. A couple even snickered at me as they walked out. This kind of behaviour is deeply disappointing, hateful, and unacceptable. In a city celebrated for its diversity, such conduct should not tolerated, and it should never be excused anywhere. Shame on those who engage in this. Too bad such parasites taint a beautiful space where art is shared. Read moreTHEY DO NOT GIFT WRAP. I actually really like this shop and they have a great selection of carefully curated and beautiful things to choose from. However, almost nothing is unique and you can get pretty much everything at 20-40% discount elsewhere. To shop there is to pay a premium for the experience which I don’t mind since it would go toward supporting the Tate.
However, when they told me they do not gift wrap, I was quite surprised and to be honest very disappointed. To have a piece of Tate brought home to my family and to tell them all about the strange and wonderful art within would have been something special. Without the gift wrapping to differentiate, whatever I would have brought I might as well have bought them on Amazon and save the luggage...
