Last Saturday evening we went there walk in around 5pm being told that the restaurant will close at 6pm which was fine for us. From staff to food and the atmosphere everything was great until we had an awful experience with the security stuff. First he came all the way up to our table to remind that the restaurant will be closing in 10min at 17:45. Then we asked for and paid the bill and left table around 17:54 accordingly. On the way to the exit our friend who came from Cardiff wanted to take a couple of pictures near the window. By the time we stopped by the security guy started an argument with us in a very rude way asking us to leave immediately. Then we said that no rush there are still other people in the restaurant and why you are picking us? The he said us not to tech his job to him. Then I said that we were told that the restaurant will close at 6pm and now it is 5:56pm, you can't force us to leave immediately. Then he just pushed it further and stayed just beside us. When we thought that the exit door was the one which was open and we were directed, he told us again why you are going there, there is not the exit door. Anyway he just pushed it so badly and in a rudest way to make our Saturday night awful and he succeeded. The management should take care of their staff's customer communication. We wouldn't expect it from...
Read moreGreat place to treat yourself to some exquisite dishes if you have to be in or close to the Tate. There might not be a large selection but the dishes are varied and it costs £30 for two courses at £37 for three courses.
For the starters I had the Pressed guinea fowl, ‘bread and butter’ carrots, radish, mustard seed and my partner had the Burnt fennel, romesco, date and orange. Both of these dishes were tasty.
For the main courses i had the Baked spaghetti squash, lentil and Carlin pea ragout, coriander, although i was unable to understand why the dish was had " spaghetti" in the title. The dish was a delicious vegetarian and was filling even though it was only a medium size portion, quality rather than quantity i guess. My partner had the Confit duck leg, winter vegetable garbure, bacon, celeriac, truffle oil which was a more watery dish and quite meaty as the title suggests.
We also ordered a serving of serving or homemade bread and butter which was nice. The bread felt fresh and soft and the butter was also soft and easy to spread.
I had a pint of Haze beer which was soft and citrus-tasting. This went nicely as an afternoon treat. My partner had a glass of red wine which she enjoyed.
Overall this was a very nice experience after viewing the Yayoi Kusama : Infinity...
Read moreWent after the Kusama exhibit, as part of the dinner + exhibition package ticket, and what an absolute let-down the dinner experience was.
The disappointment started with an initial drink at the bar before dinner (“discretionary” service charge added by a waitress who was absolutely incompetent, didn’t know what she was doing and was unpleasant on top of it). When we made it to our table, we waited 20 mins before finally asking someone to please take our order.
In all fairness, our table waitress was lovely and did her best to salvage the experience. She can’t be blamed for the food menu though, which managed to both be overpriced (£75 for dinner and the ticket, and yet you insist on charging extra for sides that should be included in the mains? Kind of obnoxious) and utterly under-seasoned. Soup, bland (until salt added). Trout tataki was tiny (but good). Unsure how hasselback potatoes drowning in sour cream are an actual main dish, but the bavette (sans blood pudding) was a very good cut of meat, unfortunately drowning in a watery jus and split hollandaise.
I love visiting the Tate but that restaurant experience was absolutely terrible. Never again. For that price,...
