In the almost 10 months ive been here they have gone through several changes, including but not limited to, a new leasing office team, and several renovations including a brand new renovated leasing office.
I currently live in a unit without an in-unit washer/dryer. I thought to save some money on rent this wouldn't be a big deal, turns out this was not the case. The complex has 3 washer/dryer building on it. One right next to me, one near the leasing office, and one within the office itself. Very early on the unit closest to me was closed down because all the machines stopped working so I decided to start using the unit closest to the office. Within a month, that building was also shut down due to all those machines not functioning, so I decided as a hell mary to use the leasing offices washer/dryers. Again, within a month or so all those units stopped working. I had gone directly to the office to report this issue 3 times over the past few months asking for an update on when it would be fixed. I never heard back other than to say they anticipated March.
I then recently went back to the office to report additional issues i was running into and the conclusion of that conversation was as follows:
Odyssey had ordered new rental washer/dryer units about a year ago to help remedy this issue. The original plan was to have them get installed in March and according to office management they kept getting delayed because they had said the company that they use was based out of El Paso and was very short staffed. By short staff, i was told 4 employees service the whole state of New Mexico. I went in yesterday and came to found out that it is only now 3 employees servicing the whole state.
I can understand short staffing and delays with the company they use. However what i can not wrap around my head is why they dont choose a different company to work with. The past several months I have resorted to doing laundry at friends and family. Which i have been fortunate enough to have that opportunity. Upon speaking to management yesterday they agreed to remedy my inconvenience by giving me several loaded laundry cards once the units were complete. As it stands now those laundry buildings will not be available for an additional 2 months.
As part of a lease agreement you are entitled to use these facilities as part of what you pay in your rent cost. While I appreciate them trying to remedy my inconvenience the issues dont stop there. I have also had issues with receiving important emails from the leasing office as I have had to contact other residents within odyssey to forward me these emails. Since yesterday the issue seemed to have been resolved after i had mentioned I was not receiving important emails. Last email i received before this email issue was resolved (I think?) was pertaining to a situation involving a SWAT situation on or around the premises which stated that for our own safety to stay in doors until the situation was resolved. This was back in February. There was apparently a follow up email that was sent out an hour later saying it was now safe. I had not received this 2nd email until i had asked another resident later in the day. For some this may not be a big issue but as someone who works a comission based job i had stayed home from work that day to ensure my own safety and had lost out on wages because of this email issue. Come to find out there have been several emails sent out since then, none of which i receieved. This is now a concern for my own safety.
They also recently pushed for Community Bulk Internet through Xfinity that would be tied into your utility bill attached to rent. I was told that this would cost me $70/month even though i was already using Xfinity on my own for $55/month for the same service speed. When I brought this detail to the office i was told and I quote "we will not haggle with you on this and you can just throw away your money if you want as they will continue rasing their prices". In my experience this is not the case at all in all my years of paying for an...
Read more   Read moreYeah. You donât want to live here. Paying just shy of $1400.00/month to have this rotted out water heater sitting by my front door for going on a week now and surrounded by dog poop on the grounds over the holidays. When reported to the front desk today I was told by shania that âI am not your servant!!!â Wow, really?! Maybe a better response would be âWe are sorry for the inconvenience and we will address it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention to make living here a better experience for our residents.â So do yourselves a favor and do not invest in a place that shames you for their lack of property over-site to hold up their end of your lease agreement (i.e. property maintenance). Apparently, they see that responsibility as servitude to others rather than basic property maintenance.đ There are lots of preventable apartment floods hereâŚâŚhence the rusted out 20 year old water heater dumped outside my front door, after my neighborâs flood and replacement- pictured here). If you happen to have the unfortunate experience of having to assist in putting out after-hour apartment fires here while awaiting the fire departments arrival, just know that you will discover that most of the property fire extinguishers are 1/2 full, empty or broken. So that you'll need to form a fire line with people running around the complex gathering up functional fire extinguishers while others work towards containing the fire at hand. Also, know that when the Fire Chiefs task you with assistance in contacting apartment management/maintenance so that they can report âbreech of propertyâ to access the apartments to check for any burning embers and potential injuries by breaking down the doors and smashing in windowsâŚ.the contact emergency number on the apt recording does not connect anywhere. Managerial/ Maintnence response will thus take hours to achieve. When you inquire to the management on instruction for accessible emergency contact in the event of future emergencies/fires within the their complex, you will get this response from the assistant property manager âYeah, we heard about that.â đ Iâve experienced two apartment fires in this complex. Management will not acknowledge residents who selflessly intervened to protect against further damage of their property or show gratitude for their actions to ensure the preservation of the property structure and the human lives of their residents during an apartment building fire on their premises. Theyâll just shrugged you off as nothing. They are really good at trying start arguments designed to distract and offend you, then turning it around on you for what actually are their own failures to assume their professional responsibilities for their residents which are clearly laid out in your signed lease. It is an astounding display of apathy, greed and inertia. Signing that lease lead you into allowing yourself to be treated this way by management/staff. They know that theyâve locked you into having to pay that rent so how they treat you is your problem now which seem fine with them! đł I have come to realize where this lack of management/staff civility directed at residents stems fromâŚ..It is quite simply a deflection used in an attempt to get residents to shut-up about the many broken property issues experienced here. They dismiss their residents by degrading them verbally with statements meant to offend or intimidate (bullying) when an issue is brought to their attention. Rather than just addressing the concerns brought to them to protect their own property infrastructure and aesthetics. They display a defensiveness because they know that they canât possibly deliver on what theyâve promised you in the lease. It is apparent that it is just too much for them to be able to cope with the many needs of this property. Instead they take their stress out on their residents. Below the surface you will find an old complex whose internal infrastructure has been very neglected for over two decades. This will become your problem and your fault once you...
Now that I have moved out of these apartments, I feel itâs time for a proper review.
We were in the older part of the complex, overlooking the Bus Depot. Core Vistas is considered a gated apartment, but it's not. The fence around the complex has multiple holes and openings, so a lot of people coming from the bus depot will walk through the complex at all hours of the day. The east gate is never closed, so cars can come in and out without issue.
Our first week here; our apartment was broken into. Someone hopped over into our patio, and took a drill to the sliding glass door, allowing them to remove the metal siding from the glass, and removing the glass effortlessly. I contacted the front office in regards to this and never heard back. The police could only do so much. If you fear for your possessions, consider getting an apartment that is upstairs.
After the break-in, I ended up installing security cameras to overlook the front and sliding glass door. On at least 3 occasions there were people from the apartments coming in un-announced. When I addressed this with the girls at the front, they didnât even try to justify it by saying itâs their ârightâ or âresponsibilityâ, they just straight up lied and said no one went in.
Laundry rooms are everywhere, so there is likely one close by to your apartment. A lot of times however we would do laundry and find 50% of the machines broken, mangled, or labeled âNot Workingâ in black sharpie. Washing machines do lock which is nice, but dryers donât, and we have caught people stealing clothes from dryers. All laundry room doors will lock when the door is closed, but I have noticed that during the warmer months, the laundry doors will be propped open, allowing anyone to walk in.
During the summer our AC went out. It took 2 months to have someone out to fix it. In the end it was discovered that 3 out of 4 of the AC units on our apartment block were not working. I canât imagine that we were the only people bringing this to their attention during those few months.
Cleanliness is iffy. Landscaping is done by another company, and a lot of times they will not trim hedges, mow lawns, cut branches, or even pick up trash. We have also seen them with leaf blowers blow leaves and trash into patios. Because there are only 2 dumpsters in the whole complex, you will see most people accumulate trash and then throw it out when it gets too much. Expect to see trash piles in trucks, patios, and sometimes outside front doors.
During the summer months, the pools will be open, and unlocked. You donât need a pool key, so pools get packed because people who donât live at the apartments will drive over and swim.
There are issues with cockroaches, and when calling to have someone spray, it is literally someone with a home depot jug of bug barrier spraying your corners and then leaving. We started getting very sick in our last month and couldnât figure out why until we started moving furniture out. We had a dresser on the bedroom wall, that after moving it, was COVERED in black mold. The mold came from the sprinklers that were soaking through a broken wall outside and soaking through to the inner wall.
I really cannot recommend these apartments. it might be okay for a temporary place, but I couldnât see this place being long term. The shops close by are very convenient, and it may be itâs only selling point to be honest. I feel the issues I had I should have brought more to the offices attention, but to be honest, I really donât...
