The Blackbird Wine Bar and Charcuterie provided a welcome and joyful reprieve from the past months of ongoing pandemic challenges. Since indoor seating isn't currently an option, my Lady Love and I stumbled upon this lovely gem of a place while taking a walk through town. There is only one table available outside, along with carry-out service being available.
While looking through the window and admiring the cozy atmosphere of the Blackbird, we noticed the owner waving at us, so we stuck our heads inside the door (masks on) and asked whether the outdoor table was available. He immediately welcomed and walked us to the table and introduced himself as Bryan.
We were bundled up in stocking caps and winter gear (49 degrees), but Bryan turned our time at the Blackbird into a memorable outdoor experience. He shared his story and excitement about opening a wine bar and charcuterie in Anacortes, despite doing so during a pandemic. Immediately apparent was Bryan's understanding and passion for his customers and his business. He was an expert on the wines being offered and could answer questions in a way that was understandable, even to a novice. I wasn't surprised to learn that Bryan was a teacher earlier in his life and believe his wonderful communication skills enhanced our experience.
The menu was creatively organized and provided suggestions for cheese and wine pairings. After selecting a wine, I asked Bryan if he could create a charcuterie board that might go well with my choice. He happily agreed, and what resulted was a beautiful selection of cheeses, salami, prosciutto and spreads, with a fresh, warm baguette on the side. Everything was delicious and more than enough for two people. Bryan checked on us frequently and took such pride in wanting to make sure our wintry afternoon at the Blackbird was enjoyable.
(One note, if you go: the word "Blackbird" is not written anywhere on the restaurant window; it has a picture of a blackbird, with the words "Wine Bar and Charcuterie: underneath, so not everyone knows it's called Blackbird.)
For those who don't want to sit outside, I highly recommend ordering one of his delicious charcuterie boards and a bottle of wine for takeout. I also learned that he is happy to prepare charcuterie boards as gifts for others. I'm sure most would be thrilled to be surprised with such a delicious treat!
Bryan uses fresh and high-quality ingredients and works collaboratively with other restaurants in town to provide a wonderful combination of flavors. He is the type of person who will do his best to positively contribute to the town of Anacortes, and I have no doubt that I'll be back again. I'm particularly looking forward to spending time inside the Blackbird, once the pandemic has passed. This would be a wonderful place to meet a friend for good conversation, while enjoying fine wine and a charcuterie board.
Congrats to Bryan for bringing a new and enjoyable business to Anacortes. I believe his dedication and commitment to his customers is exceptional and truly hope he remains in Anacortes for many years to come. And despite my glowing review, I am not an acquaintance of the proprietor. I met him for the first time when we stuck our heads...

Read moreWhile wandering down Commercial Avenue in Anacortes, I encountered the Blackbird Wine Bar and Charcuterie. With the tables in the outside dining area occupied, I chose to step inside and see what the new-to-me Wine Bar was all about.
Comfortable couches and chairs were arranged in small conversational group settings, with customers sipping wine and noshing on cheeses and meat charcuterie. I explored further into the room and found the owner behind a bar with several empty tall stools. I was cordially greeted and asked what I would like. His wine and cider list did not have the usual fare. I said I would like a cider, but do not recognize these brands. What would you suggest? He reached into his cooler and produced a chilled glass and a delightfully tasting hard cider, which quenched my thirst.
Between his need to serve his guests, he shared his ideas about the wine and ciders he selects. They must be regional, produced using sustainable and biodynamic methods. The questions and answers were shared. I found a kindred wine enthusiast.
If you like to explore quality wines and are in Anacortes, Stop by the Blackbird Wine Bar. It is an adventure...
