I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone after having issues with the integrity of the jewelry twice.
My husband bought me a pair of earrings and a chain from here with a help of a woman and had a great experience. Both items held up really well.
I went back here to buy a pair of earrings since it’s a well known and trusted shop. Before buying them, I asked the salesman Jake if these could be worn all the time and at night because I was iffy on the mechanism. He assured me many people do so with no problem.
However, within a few months of wearing the earrings, the gold post bent and they would fall off. We took them back and the owner straightened the post and told us we probably shouldn’t wear these all the time. I was pretty disappointed because I only bought these with the assurance from the salesman that we could wear these earrings all the time.
Still, we thought maybe this was a one time thing so my husband bought my engagement ring from here too. Within a few months, the prongs on the ring loosened and we almost lost the diamond. I was careful with the ring and always took it off before bed, cooking, dishes, laundry, showering. I never hit it against anything. We took it back to the store and the owner reset the diamond and said the gold prongs are a little soft. If anything happens again just bring it back and he’ll handle it for us.
Within a few months during thanksgiving, (9 months since purchase), we almost lost the diamond again because of the prongs. We were out of town and got the ring fixed because we had family members who wanted to see it. That jeweler there also said the prongs are very weak and we should probably get it replaced.
When we got back go Ann Arbor, I took the ring back and the salesman Jake is there and not the owner. I told him this is the second time this has happened and the owner previously said to just bring it in and he’ll handle it. I asked him about the pricing or if it’ll be covered since it’s been under a year and this is the second time it’s happened. Jake proceeded to say that they would never sell jewelry in this condition and who knows what happens when items leave out the jewelry store doors. If they covered everything that left the door then they wouldn’t make any money. This left me very frustrated since this is the second time this has happened to my ring that I’ve been very careful with and we also had issues with the pair of earrings we bought from here. Both were gold items and Jake is essentially telling me they’re not responsible for anything once you buy their jewelry and leave their store. I felt like we’ve been spending our money at a place that we’re supposed to trust and we keep running into issues with the jewelry. The repair price wasn’t a big issue because we have the ring insured. I did not leave my ring with the salesman because I felt like I couldn’t trust the store anymore. If they repaired my ring and one month later there’s still issues, would the salesman tell me again that it’s not their fault because who knows what I do with the ring once I walk through the door?
I also didn’t want to leave my ring there especially when he said it’ll take a long time for the repair. I wanted to have it by Christmas and when we got the ring resized here, it took way longer than the estimated time. I had to call the store multiple times to check on the status of the ring because I wanted it at our engagement dinner.
I got my ring repaired at Lewis’s instead and the customer service was a huuuuge difference. I felt at ease and they immediately showed us repair options and guaranteed us it’ll be ready before Christmas. It’s now been 9 months since Lewis’s repaired the ring and the prongs have not budged once so it’s not my carelessness that caused the original prongs to loosen like the salesman from Schlanderer suggested. We decided to get our wedding bands from Lewis’s after this and they’ve also held up beautifully. I would warn everyone against buying from...
Read moreFor context I am not one to leave reviews, but I’m very confused by them. The first time I met with them they were incredibly helpful and I felt like I could really trust them with a few gold pieces that had broken due to use, vintage pieces passed down from my grandmother. I was very excited to have found somebody local that was trustworthy. However, that was where their professional ended. When they sent one of my pieces out to a third-party, they called and asked if I would be OK with the quote and I had a few questions about the repair to which they were very vague. I asked what my bracelet would realistically look like after it was finished to determine if it was worth trying to repair (only to end up looking wonky). All that was said was “it will look better than before, with a spot where the soldering was ”…. I asked again the estimate of what that might look like (didn’t even need to be exact) or how large the spot might be and was told that that is all they can say…. When I asked to speak to the goldsmith I was told that “I am the expert, I’ve been doing this for 10 years, and you’re not going to speak to anyone else” …. Like??? What an odd thing to say, and then not be able to answer my question. It felt confrontational when I was just asking a question or to chat with someone who might be able to answer it. I was then told that “I have a lot of calls to make today and I’m going to decline this work, you may pick up your things in 2 days” …. I was speechless… I would never speak to someone like this… for context, I work in medicine and I answer every question my patients and their loved ones have - I’m happy to, because it’s important for them to be informed about realistic outcomes for the treatments we have, and it’s also my job….. overall I’m super disappointed with the way I...
Read moreI don't often write reviews, but after my extremely positive experience, I cannot say enough good things about this business, and will forever recommend them to everyone I know. I've purchased at least 3 pieces of basic jewelry here, as well as an engagement ring and 2 wedding bands. Whether I was spending $100 or $10,000, I was treated with just as much respect and patience every time. I worked with Jake to purchase an engagement ring, and throughout the 6-7 different visits I made, he was always very welcoming, patient, and understanding that this was a large purchase not to be taken lightly. Their whole team is extremely knowledgeable and made sure I got the exact design/stone I wanted, even if it meant ordering another stone and waiting a few days for me to come back. We've brought the engagement ring back a few times (before sessions with a photographer and before the wedding) and they will clean it up and make sure all the stones are firmly set in place, free of charge. I don't have any plans to purchase another item anytime soon, but I will always go here first for the experience of the fantastic customer service and knowledge...
