University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid — Local services in Ann Arbor

I have been going back and forth with student financial service since the summer/spring semester. I told them well in advance that my scholarships wouldn’t arrive in time. That knew that. That being said, when my scholarships finally arrived they put them for the fall term. So I almost had to pay 4k. If I didn’t go in person I’d possibly have been prosecuted and not allowed to register for winter classes. I’m very thankful for the person who helped me out. Hit or miss with this place. I went with questions about my student loan repayment plan and policies and told someone there that I had loans managed by the University. She said "no you don't, it's managed by your student loan servicer. Look on the National Student Loan Data System". I told her that the University was my servicer. She asked if I had a Perkins Loan (for which universities are the servicer) and I said yes. She said "Perkins Loans don't show up in the data system."

I have a hearing impairment. On 7-26-2, I called the financial aid office I was on hold for 20 minutes. When I was finally connected to the Financial Aid Officer, I had a tough time hearing his name. When I asked him to spell his name for me, he hung up on me. I tried calling back but there were 14 callers ahead of me. Is this how the University of Michigan treats people with a hearing...
