I am really confused by the statements about the staff being racist. One of the greatest things about RPS is how multicultural the building is. The location alone attracts people from all different places. Yes, the building is older but RPS is the best of all 4 buildings, they just renovated the lobby and are moving slowly throughout the building including changing out light fixtures and painting the hallways. This is a CO-OP, not an apartment building. Many people rent units from individual owners or companies that have multiple units in the building or buildings. If you are on the east side of the building depending on your floor, you will have an unobstructed view of Washington DC. I can see the Lincoln, the monument, the Jefferson, the Capitol, and even the Kennedy Center. You cannot beat the location given its proximity to the National Mall and Georgetown. However, one of the downsides to living in Rosslyn is that it still feels like the business district because most businesses shut down/close by 9/9:30PM. As far as pricing for rentals they will vary significantly. My unit is a completely renovated larger studio with full kitchen including a full size refrigerator, view of DC, walk-in closet, and indoor/garage parking spot. I pay a total of $1675/month which includes my parking and utilities, I only pay for my personal internet. I think the rents are reasonable and you get what you pay for. Again, the building is over 50 years old so there are drawbacks like the building controlling when the heat and AC are turned on. I can't control if I want heat on or AC, I can only control the amount I let into my apt. Your experience will weigh heavily on the landlord you choose, I love my landlord and the staff here. They have fixed multiple items for me quickly sometimes without me having to request them. Pick your landlord wisely and understand you are moving into an...
Read moreHot Summers and Hotter winters. After 6 years living here there is no way I can justify paying rent at a full market rate given the temperature of the building year around. If I didn't pay well below like under 1100 to live here I would have left a long long time ago. Its just too damn hot all the damn time. 78- 80 degrees all summer is ridiculous.
My Girlfriend never wants to stay at my apartment because of the temperature and its not just a summer issue. In the winter the building is around 80 - 90 degrees all winter. I have to have my windows open at all times with a fan positioned directly in front of my window just to keep from sweating indoors. And its not just me if you look outside at other peoples windows a lot of other tenants do the same.
My theory is that the retired elderly complain non stop for a warmer climate because their older bodies chill easy ..so the building just conforms to stop all the complaining. The complex has been there since the 70's so there are a lot of long term elderly tenants.
The lady with the blond hair in the management office is racist and rude so is the Spanish lady at the front desk. I laughed reading through other reviews that stated the same. Other than a few staff and the temperature everything about the building and the complex is great. Great community of people. Great location. and the building is constantly being remolded so thats great also.
But with that said the building is not worth paying the full market rate for. Especially when you can just go to Ballston or anywhere else in all of Virginia and get far superior apartments for the same price. Its not worth the location. Temperature is bare minimum to comfort. The only people that stay are those that are getting very low rent deals besides that tenants are in and out...
Read morePros: The price is pretty attractive for the area, and the location is quite good, and the facilities (gym, pool, store) are actually pretty great!
Cons: -Many of the apartments are in need of repair or update -Serious critter problem with cockroaches throughout the building, -The staff overly aggressive about every rule (seriously, there are flyers posted on every wall in the building threatening how much they will fine you for every little thing) and generally range between unfriendly and incompetent. -The built in air conditioning (if you can call it that) cannot be controlled within individual apartments and basically doesn't work - maybe don't live here between the months of May to August?
You could do worse,...
