Update: the store did listen to my caution that it’s against Kansas law to not post a sign saying prices may be changed at checkout, so they did do that. However, it seems they’re not even sorry for being so dishonest and awful to me. That’s too bad.
This review is incredibly unfortunate because I have literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this store over the course of my life. However, today when I arrived at the store I had probably the most infuriating and upsetting experience to date. There was a camping-style chair there marked for $8. There were tags on two of the legs (I clearly didn’t change these tags also). When I went to the checkout to pay (allowing multiple people to skip ahead of me in line) the woman totaling my purchases (named Sharon, I believe) told me there’s a mistake. “There’s no way they meant to tag that chair at $8.” She spoke to Mallory (another volunteer) about the price and then asked me if I would do $15. I flat out told her “no” because it was marked $8. She literally changed the price at the register. I told my husband (I had previously sent him a pic of this chair) and explained why I would be coming home without it. He then called and spoke to Sharon who informed my husband that they are allowed to change prices at the register if they need to (although this information is posted nowhere in this store). She borderline accused me to changing tags while she was speaking on the phone to my husband. My husband informed them how dishonest this practice was, and explained my embarrassment. The woman refused to judge on the price, told him it was at least a $20 chair, and conveniently left out that she tried to convince me to buy it at...
Read moreThis store is too high for a place that gets so much donated to them from such a small community... They won't negotiate... They rarely do holds... If they do it's because things have rung up already and that you come up short on your end... They have clothes they put on the new rack w their pricing... The clothes don't have manufactured prices on them so how are they really new... They decide what is or isn't on that... Idk I continue to go only because I don't feel like going to St Joe or the City which both of them are more fair for...
Read moreDon't waste your time here. Shabby little thrift store that makes women check their purses at the front counter. There are so many other legitimate antique stores and shops downtown that don't require you to surrender your belongings at the door. If you're that worried about someone stealing stuff you didn't even have to purchase, buy yourself some cameras like a proper business. I would recommend Backroad Atlas, Treasure Trunk Antiques, and there are a couple others downtown that are leagues above this...
