Please Read: The market seems great and the vendors seem nice and welcoming. The problem I had focused on a staff member who lied to me as I had my dog in the market. I did not enter in one of the two main ways where there is a sign clearly saying no pets. I respect the fact of a private venture setting these rules. The gentleman, who would not give his name, approached and ask us to leave because the health department did not allow pets there...that was the lie. I left with my dog and asked for a number as to discuss with the health department. The number was right back to the man who asked us to leave then he said it was not a health department rule, it was the market. Again, no problem with the actual rule, it was the lying to my face and diverting the blame to another individual as to not have to stand up for it. This is why I recommend not using the market. If individuals cannot take personal responsibility, I do not want to reward...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting in Athen for two months, and the farmers market is one of the best things we’ve found here. The prices are generally excellent, so it’s a place we can buy many of the regular things we eat and we get better quality than what we find in the grocery store .
There is an excellent choice of fruits, herbs and veggies, including organic. The eggs, meats and honey are fantastic. There are high quality prepared products: pies, breads, pastries, pickles, jam, pizza, fudge, peanut butter, coffee, and more.
It’s great fun to meet the local producers and overall it a nice experience for starting the weekend. Thank you Athens. Next week we leave and will miss the great experience of you...
Read moreIt keeps changing, but not necessarily for the better. Fast becoming a food court and craft fair rather than affordable local food. This happened in Morgan county with their farmers market as well. Many vendors don't even show up on Wednesdays, so there is significantly less to see. Prices are ridiculously high, and some vendors seem a little unfriendly. That is unfortunate considering the amount of low income people in the area and all the people needing better food and nutrition. Seriously needs new management ASAP. Not an accountant, professor or business person. Someone with actual farm knowledge and...
