This store doesn't even deserve 1 star! I had a friend go in for something and told me they were pretty rude. Today, I went in for an item (had never been in there before) and when I walked in I wasn't even greeted. I had no idea where my item might be. Thought it might be in the refrigerator section, but it wasn't. So, I asked the woman where the GHEE was and even spelled it for her in case I was pronouncing it improperly. She gave me this look like I have no idea what you are talking about and shrugged her shoulders. I pronounced it and spelled it again. There was a man sitting at the front right beside the saleswoman working on a computer and heard me, but offered no assistance. I left to get my friend (who had been there before) to come into the store and find it for me. She went right to it. I held up the jar and showed the saleswoman so she would know in the future. The man working on his computer takes the jar to cash me out and said to me. "You act like we don't speak English" and was just down right RUDE to me. I told him he could keep the product. He told me to get out! Boy, does he ever have a chip on his shoulder. I told him that he was horrible and not to worry, I would NEVER come back in here EVER again. If he is the owner, he sure needs to reevaluate what he really wants to do. Obviously it's not serving the public! If someone else owns this store, you need to get someone...
Read moreLike many reviews before me, I have had many a bad experience here, everything from cold stares to downright nasty comments. Shopping here was a last resort to find ingredients not available elsewhere… BUT NOW, as of 6-30-14 I am THRILLED to report that The New Market in under new ownership! Today I went in and spoke with the lovely person behind the counter about a couple of Korean produce items I'd like to see them carry. We had a language barrier but she was interesting in helping me out. We both ended up on our iPhones finding common ground in google images. Turns out the Large Pea Shoots she actually grows in her own garden here in town! She excitedly ran to the back and brought me some! She indicated she will try to get them for resale! And then gave me the bag and would not take payment for them. Next we tackled Beech Mushrooms. She took a photo of my iPhone photo of them and will look into it. I must say, I AM THRILLED! The New Market is a gem in our town that's always had so much potential. I wish the owners of China Panda, who bought the business, the best of luck and I hope the community will reach out and...
Read moreIt's a nice place. The older reviews (around 5 years ago and earlier) are before New Market was bought by my friend's grandparents, and changed to New Market. In case you're wondering, his grandparents do have a language barrier and don't understand English very well. They're nice, polite, friendly, etc., they just, again, don't understand English very well. His other family members do, though, as well as himself. His grandparents (as of the last few years) are assisted by at least one member of my friend's family (to help out and for English help when a customer is asking a question or purchasing an item). We usually go there a few times, monthly. Overall, very nice selection of products...
