Wanted to adopt a cat and talked to the lady to set up a date and time to do a meet and greet with our dogs, we showed up and as soon as she saw our dogs (little chihuahua mix and american pocket bully) she immediately acted funny saying the cat was acting off even though he wasn't. The cat was eating its food, she moved it away and said he wasn't eating. He was meowing and rubbing the glass (his papers said he's very talkative and affectionate).and when she put him in the cage to be closer to the dogs they all got along great! There was little kids coming up petting my dogs and they loved it but yet she seemed to have a problem with them. I told her we had just moved here so haven't been to a vet in person but had one in mind and she just asked like1,000 times if my dogs have been since we've been here and I kept repeatedly telling her no. I told here they were set up to get their nails cut in a week but it was like she wasn't listening. Our chihuahua wears a muzzle because his jaw got broke from other dogs and has been through 2 surgeries but has to keep it on and we told her that but she acted like it wasn't true. Our bully was born with 3 toes on one paw and his owners were gonna get rid of him because no one would breed with him so we said we would take him in and she had the nerve to straight up say EWW and sorry he was mutilated and she was complaining his ears were cropped but we told her he was like that when we got him. I had told her I had never adopted from petsmart before but was excited for the cat and she than said we couldn't because our chihuahua wasn't fixed and said it had to do with bad animal parents. Though we were getting very upset we were very respectful through all of this but tell me how we are bad animal parents when we took in our bully with cropped ears that no one else wanted because of his paw having three toes? Or how our little chihuahua got in a life threatening accident and we spent THOUSANDS to ensure he wouldn't die and could still have a pretty normal life???? But yet we couldn't adopt a cat there that got along GREAT with our dogs because she said "your chihuahua isn't fixed so I can't let you adopt him", After talking weird and down to us for 20 minutes. I had been talking to this lady for a few days to set everything up and showing her what we bought for the cat and telking her I haven't adopted from a place before figuring she'd tell me all the information but she really just seemed to not like our dogs or something. Will definitely not be...
Read moreUsually, when visiting a store that has animals for sale, you smell the stench as you approach the doors. This specific spot did not make my face scrunch up. It was actually really clean, which was a noticeable difference from other pet stores. I went to rent a carpet cleaner. A lot of people don't realize that Petsmart rents them, so they'll usually have a nice selection of machines that aren't overused or dirty from the last party. While walking through the shop, I noticed they also had some interesting finds in reptiles, insects, and birds. I really want to know who was the first to think it was a good idea to keep as a pet something you need to keep separated and secured from you while you sleep? I don't see the purpose. If someone broke into your home in the middle of the night, what would you do? Throw your pet tarantula on the intruder? Tell Tweetie to pluck their eyes out? And don't tell me they are for companionship. A snake will slither away the minute they get the chance. They don't love you. And the aquariums, well they are just miny prisons. Do you think they appreciate being enclosed in your cages instead of living free and in the wild until they are hunted in the natural order of things? That is their God-given right. But, the store was great, and the staff was very helpful and nice. When returning the machine, another customer's dog took liberties in between the sliding door entrances. They didn't even get mad or curse the folks out or...
Read moreWhile this place isn't bad, especially if you have a traditional pet, I own two bunnies and their "small pet" section is lacking. The tunnels are great for Guinea pigs or ferrets but not at all for rabbits. I have two Holland lops which are the smallest breed of rabbit and range from 3lbs for runts to 6lbs for false dwarves and none of those tunnels are good for them after their baby stages.
They also carry pine shavings which are toxic for bunnies if not prepared right and none of the packaging details how these shavings are handled so we just steer clear. There are also many, and I do mean many, poor quality food and bedding choices for all small animals. There are some good ones but you have to know what you're doing and you can't go in blind the way you can with a more traditional cat or dog.
This said, they're pretty good for a pet store. No pet store houses Betta fish properly but that's a pet store issue rather than this store specifically. They do have in house vet services for cats and dogs though I'd appreciate if an exotic were scheduled about once a week. So many people don't have a traditional pet and that would certainly help. They also have grooming services and we got pictures with Santa this year.
So overall good but I had to dock a star for their small pets section. It's much better than some other stores but that doesn't mean a lot when other stores have...
