I owe a debt to this shop for making it clear in only a few secondsd just how important my business is to them . Bottom line: it turns out by refusing an exchange that cost me about $3 in gas alone plus time, I had to return a toilet snake that did not work right for me in order to exchange it for one that would be about $1.28 more. My sense was I was returning a product that did not function well and wanted to make a straight exchange. The crucial point would be $1.28. Now, it's not as if I'm a stranger to the place and ordinarily would only turn to their people and shelves for my needs. But now I've been educated as it required an assembly of about three people to decide to refuse my exchange, the decision about which was made by a tall sandy haired gentleman who seemed to have the power to make a $1.28 decision that would cost them my usual and eventual business. He had to be called because the very reliable cashier with whom I would always deal was required to get the heavy artillery for such a decision. There was polite and direct conversation at the register that would have been right on were we discussing a tractor or lawn mower of some substantial cost. No, we were simply talking about a longstanding customer who simply felt he(I)had a case for a straight exchange. Well, you got to know there was serious stirring of thought and philosophy going on in the mind of the apparent responsible person. Soon I reached for my wallet and change and produced the serious change with the serious authority figure commanding the reliable cashier to take the money being offered. Shyly, though, she took the money, and the yearly financials of Bainbridge Island's one ACE Hardware establishment were brought into order, and I sincerely thank the assemblage for clarifying my status with them so I do not have to battle traffic anymore at that intersection to...
Read moreThis Ace is the epitome of an UNhelpful place. This business is not run well - the employees will tell you that they are completely unaffiliated with Ace Hardware. Sorry, but Ace Hardware is the name of your store. The employees are extremely rude, unhelpful, and could not seem to care less about the customer. It's sad, really, that this location thinks they can treat their customers this way. The female worker, May I believe her name is, told me they don't care about what Ace Hardware advertises because they have no competition. Sorry, the internet is your competition, and it's eating your lunch. I just moved to the island and would have spent thousands of dollars here, and because they refused to take a legitimate return worth $20 of a defective product (Even when the receipt says 'exchanges and returns accepted with original receipt), I will not give them a penny of my business. You're supposed to get customer service at a brick and mortar store compared to online. When you get negative service in person and great customer service from Amazon, why would any rational consumer choose to support negative behavior and bad business. Not me, and I hope anyone reading this won't support this...
Read moreIf I could give this place no stars, I would. I live in Seattle and came here with someone to visit their Dad and do some gardening projects with them both over here in Bremerton. We bought some gardening twine and a couple other things before catching the ferry here. Turns out his Dad had already bought some twine and was using it. Since our hotel was conveniently across from Ace Hardware, we decided to return it for store credit since we obviously didn't bring the receipt along with us. Upon trying to return it, we were instantly profiled and accused of stealing it. We were told that there was one missing from their inventory, they would have to check the security cameras (which apparently weren't running) and then threatened to call the police. I ended up just setting it on the counter and saying they could just have it, we didn't need the money since that's what they thought we were after. I also told them to quit profiling people and they should be ashamed of themselves. Bruce, the floor manager, he is the one who profiled us. For no reason at all. Don't take your business here to keep enabling them to discriminate against people. This...
