I am a fan of pub food and good beer, and was excited to try a new place close to home. I liked the layout with a sports bar off to one side, and family friendly tables arranged to take advantage of this locations natural light. Our server was prompt and friendly, which I always appreciate. We ordered the meat loaf with "pub fries" and steak and ale "pie" The restaurant was not busy and our food arrived quickly. Meatloaf itself was good, but came with a thick layer of luke warm barbecue sauce on top, which was off putting. The steamed carrots and brussel sprouts served with the meatloaf were well prepared. The "pub" was missing from the standard fare fries. My companion described them as "western family freezer fries" they were hot but not exceptional. The steak and ale pie was quite disappointing. A small cast iron bowl of stew with VERY tough beef, some mushrooms, and tiny chopped carrots. It was no variant of a pie at all. Atop my stew was a puffed square of pastry. It was not part of the dish and was too large and puffed to eat with the stew. The overall effect was artistic, but not good. Our meal came to 40 dollars with no alcohol, appetizers or dessert. While this is certainly not expensive by Bainbridge standards, it felt like a poor value for what we received. If you want good Irish style pub food, I suggest you take the ferry to Seattle and visit the Owl and Thistle for both Guinness stew...
Read moreDon't usually do these but after at least 8 to 10 times of dining here since they opened up I've sadly watched a steady decline in the quality of the food and the service. Tonight went here with my husband cause I wanted a lamb burger and I knew from the past that the burgers were pretty descent. I ordered the Lamb burger and asked to leave the cucumber yogurt sauce off and to switch the feta for goat cheese, they honored that for me. The problem is what I received was not a lamb burger, but was instead a sirloin burger that was done to well (also fries were luke warm). The bartender was friendly, but had to much they were in charge of for one person alone. We went for the bar this time as the last few times of dining in the dining room portion the service was pretty bad in there, so we were hoping it would be better in the bar. Husband ordered the mac n cheese which was pretty bland and had a fair bit of water in the bottom of the serving dish. Bartender was apologetic about the burger mix up when my husband mentioned it, but as I ate it anyway there was nothing for them to take to the kitchen to ask what happened. I've worked in this industry for a long time so I understand that sometimes there's the off night but this has been a constant and steady decline; sad cause when they first opened up food and service was...
Read moreJust had dinner here with two of our friends. Ordered two drinks, one Strawberry Lemon Drop one other one off the drink menu. Had to wait because the server said the bartender didn't put alcohol in the drinks and had to redo it. Drinks came to the table (with two sodas) and we had send the lemon drop back as it was just water, lemon and some muddled strawberries. Ordered appetizers, Scotch Egg and Stuffed Jalapeños. Both were good, though we had to start with our fingers since we never got any silverware until half way through the food. Ordered dinner, Steak & Ale Pie, Chicken Wings & fries, Macaroni & Cheese w/ Bacon and a Chicken Pie. Waitress came back and said they were out of the Chicken and would subtitle the Steak & Ale Pie. Waters went unfilled, had to ask for them and sodas to be refilled. Food came, it was lack luster at best. Steak and Ale Pies, while heavy on the mushrooms, carrots and good chunks of steaks were very bland, and had a weird aftertaste. Macaroni & Cheese was just meh...so much so only 1/2 got eaten. Wings were just OK, and fries were OK. Service was extremely slow. Maybe it was an off night...maybe it was too late for service (though it was 7:30), who knows. But for a first time trying the venue, we won't be back for...
