La Mercerie — Local services in Bainbridge Island

I was so excited to visit this store as part of the PSLYS tour this past weekend and when I walked in, it looked like yarn heaven! I was ready to do some shopping. Unfortunately, we were not greeted and I had to walk up to the 2 ladies standing behind the til to ask about getting our passports stamped. They were both chatting with each other, looking at their phones when one finally acknowledged me. She waved her hand stating they're over on the center table. She finally walked to the table and stamped our passports then walked back to the counter. I had to look around for the patterns codes, stickers, and what the featured patterns and yarn were. Once I finally found the patterns and stickers, we decided to leave. They did not appear to want to help anyone who walked in the door nor were they interested in telling anyone about the featured patterns and yarn. This was the most disappointing store I went to and made it to all 25 stores! I'm sad that I had this interaction (or lack thereof) but glad it wasn't the last store I went to. I have wanted to come here for a long time (live on the east coast) and was a bit disappointed. The selection wasn’t what I was expecting, more basic and minimal, which is fine and true to the nature of some shops, but it was a lot more bases I don’t prefer and not as many color options as I was hoping for. The staff didn’t acknowledge us once the entire time we were in there, so it didn’t feel too friendly. It has a nice decor but I’m not sure I would come...

Love this yarn store! So cozy and a great selection. My new fave place on the island! I’m a new-ish knitter, and Jessica helped me gather all the correct supplies for my first ever sweater! I’ll post a picture when I’m done, but I actually think I can do it! She’s also helped me with certain knitting techniques, which was so helpful! Shoutout to Hannah for also helping me and giving me words of encouragement! I’ll def be back for guidance...
