MUST VISIT!
Family friendly (very small restaurant so bringing a stroller like I did is not recommended). Pet friendly (outside seating only). Street parking only.
FOOD:
Chowder of the day (rotating chowder finished with parsley oil, scallions, and oyster crackers) $7 cup: Delicious chowder with a great consistency and just the right amount of chunky bits. However, the only thing I did not like was the parsley oil. If you're not a parsley fan, have them omit it.
Fried Oysters (panko and served with chips and basil aioli) $17: We had two order of these in our group - one was amazingly cooked with a crunchy texture and fried just right, the other one was kind of burnt :( The oyster on both order were huge and great value for the price. Half of our group didnt like the basil aioli but I personally loved it. It was so different and wish they served more than the little condiment container.
British Fish & Chips (Sea cod served with minty mushy peas, tartar sauce, and fat chips) $19.50: This piece was cod HUGE. It looks like its was one whole side of the cod. The meat was moist and cooked just right with an exceptional exterior that was crisp and crunchy. For being deep fried, the exterior was not greasy or oily tasting. I did not enjoy the peas so I was glad you only get a small ice cream scoop worth of it.
Fish Sandwich (beer battered Alaskan cod loin, served with slow roasted tomatoes, onion, arugula, and Macrina potato roll) $17: Great sandwich, similar to the British Fish & Chips, the cod was huge and should really have been two sandwiches considering the bread to fish ratio LOL
RESTAURANT/INTERIOR: Crazy small restaurant but with a decent turnover. You are supposed to order before grabbing a table so you cant "hold it." There are two picnic style table that can seat about 6 people each. The rest of the restaurant are small 2-4 top and with a couple of 5 top tables outside. This is a very narrow restaurant so there is a lot of sliding and making sure you dont bump anyone.
STAFF: The staff is very friendly when it comes to dropping off your food. They are very on top of clearing/cleaning the tables to make sure they are ready for...
Read moreWe are at a very small fish and chips restaurant on Bainbridge island. The line is pretty long and we were lucky to get here early enough before the place opened. It is supposed to be one of the best fish and chips in the US.
The cashier said there's always a line. It didn't open until 13min after noon but that's okay. We were able to grab a seat inside but there aren't many tables and they only seat every other table at this point. The kitchen is tiny and the pressure is on for delicious fried fish.
There is a bathroom in the back with plenty of funny reminders about how to use the bathroom.
If you order to go, at 1230pm, you can expect to get your order in 1hr and 20min. Be prepared. Again, the kitchen is very small and rate limited.
The fried fish was fluffy, creamy, tender and finished with a touch of salt. The crust was a little too soft in the middle but that also means the fish itself is less overcooked. We order two pieces which is good for two hungry people. Order one piece if you want only a small portion for two.
Chips were satisfying but again a bit soft. Maybe the oil temp was a tad low. However, the oil tasted very fresh.
The fish chowder was very thick and full of fish. Very filling. I'd order the 8oz next time if I was to do it again.
The star was surprisingly the fried oysters. Perfection. The oysters themselves were tender and fried until just cooked, like they say on the menu. The panko coating was crunchy and held the oyster together just enough. The basil aioli was delicately flavored and gave it a touch more richness, as if we needed it.
A great meal worth the...
Read moreDecent place to have lunch while on Bainbridge Island. Try to get there when they first open, otherwise you’ll be waiting. A few things to note and why I gave 3 stars. While their Caesar salad is beautifully presented, the description mentions something about a house-made dressing, but it lacked quite a bit of flavor. The baby gem lettuce was fresh & crisp which was pleasing, but overall it could’ve used more seasoning. The fish & chips were good, but have the potential to be so much better. Unfortunately, the fish batter was close to tasteless. The French fries were properly seasoned, but the fish was not. The fish is a good size, no doubt about that. The highlight of our meal was the sea cod chowder. It had lovely texture and was seasoned perfectly.
One thing that was quite bothersome were some rude customers. The restaurant is very congested and small inside and people were hovering over our table, walking back and forth waiting and looking for table availability. In fact we witnessed a lady ask another gentleman if he could share his table with her and her daughter. They plopped down with him while he was eating. It was so awkward, you could feel it in the air. We were gathering our plates and we had a couple of people charge to our table and literally set their shopping bags down on the tabletop before we even stood up. This isn’t the restaurant’s fault but people really need to be more mindful, patient, and respectful of other people’s space. It just felt like we were surrounded...
