Visited here for Pokemon cards with my boyfriend and FIL. They had a decent selection, a little less than what we anticipated, but still saw some good cards. We picked out a bunch that according to TCG should have been very affordable, but they apparently do their prices VERY different than what weâve seen so far. Typically, and this is going off of almost every single shop weâve been to for cards, they will base card prices off TCG where it says ânear mintâ or âlightly playedâ (plus shipping cost) whereas this place was straight up asking for easily double on the nicer cards. One card I wanted I couldâve ordered from the TCG site for $4-$5 (including shipping) and the guy wanted $12 because they go off of market value/âaverageâ price. I completely disagree with this pricing method because to me itâs gouge-y. If they went based off of ânear-mintâ/âlightly playedâ listing prices, we wouldâve bought way more for sure. Other shops weâve been going to recently have some of the same cards here for TCGâs current lowest listings or a dollar more at most. If it was just me who went I wouldâve left without buying anything except the cheapest cards, but my FIL insisted picking out what I wanted as a birthday gift.
All that being said, my rating is four out of five because of customer service. I appreciated how polite and patient he was and the fact that he was willing to work out a deal made us leave happy. As far as future visits, we wonât be coming back unless they update their pricing policy to be more competitive and in tune with all of the other shops. I just donât believe a cardâs value should be judged over a 3-month period of sales as the employee told us, they should instead be valued at their worth in the moment and go off of that. Iâm not sure if they do this style of pricing because they seemingly hold a monopoly in the area (weâre from Houston so it was a bit of a drive just for this one shop), but I mean just recently we went to a shop where not only did the man go based off of âlightly playedâ prices, but he didnât even include shipping cost like others do. And then at another shop before that one, a guy knocked off about $4 from a card because he saw the current value and was like âoh sorry yeah these things always fluctuateâ and we got the best deal and left beyond happy.
I do recommend this place to swing by and check out if wanting to buy cheaper cards in the $1-$3 range, but honestly other than that itâd be best to make the drive to a good shop in the Houston area to load up on really nice cards for a better price or order...
