We have relocated to the area recently and decided to replace our furniture to fit our new home rather than move it. As such, we have been to quite a few furniture stores recently. At this point, we have made purchases from five different stores. We actually missed Payne's when I was searching for stores. But I came across Payne's, and decided to look into them. Well the reviews were mixed. Some folks swearing they had a great furniture purchasing experience. Some other folks say things that I thought were fairly trivial, to some folks painting the owner as the next anti christ. (Ok, maybe not that bad) And some, I wondered if the sole purpose of the review was to inflict damage to the store and/or it's owner. So we decided there was no harm in visiting Payne's because we can always leave if things seem sketchy in any way. Plus, there just happen to be other stores close by and not quite so close by, but in the area. So we visited two other stores almost within walking distance, first, then Payne's third. Payne's is located in a small strip mall, which is really just Payne's occupying the whole strip. Payne's is by no means a large store. They are actually, one of the smaller furniture stores that we have been to. There are multiple doors because of the strip mall set up. But the center door is actually the entrance. I walked in expecting to have an issue with something after reading some reviews. But we walked into a nice little furniture store. They were obviously not very large. So there is not so many options as some stores. But what I quickly noticed was they have chosen quite a bit more furniture to display, that actually fit our taste. We found more things we liked in this little store, than most large stores. We spoke with the owner who is a salesman. So understanding that is important. Someone posted about his commenting on competition. We did speak about certain competition with us as well. But to be fair to him, what he spoke was exactly the same conclusion I had arrived at and shared with the wife before we ever stepped foot in Payne's. I'm not saying that the truth may have never been stretched to show offerings in a better light than the competition. Only that the relevant things were not malice, but instead, pretty much spot on from what we have recently experienced. So we found items we decided to take a chance on purchasing. Payne's prices for the same item I have seen elsewhere, was better. Substantially better in some cases. And yes, the items I speak of was the same model and manufacturer. I paid attention to those facts to compare apples to apples. One thing I didn't care so much for was that Payne''s prefers not to use credit cards. They will, but they want to pass on the charges to the customer, But the prices still make you come out ahead. I will say that I found that this man put trust in me and made a deal happen, where he could have backed out of, or delayed making. So, I personally have not seen this unscrupulous character that I read about. So we made a deal. Payne's has free delivery. But they are smaller and use a third party for delivery rather than incur the troubles and cost of running their own delivery service. Another small company handles the delivery process. I will not mention the name since this review is about Payne's, not the other company. All I will say is the the delivery was done the day it was suppose to be made, and to our satisfaction. The delivery company did a great job. So after our first experience with Payne's. We decided to give them a second try. We wound up with the same experience. Payne's gave us a good price and worked with us to get it done. I waited until after the second large purchase was delivered to our satisfaction before writing this review. Now I will say that we have had no issues at this point. So I cannot comment about service issues or such. I can only comment that we took a chance on a small company that some people gave poor reviews. We experienced a totally different store than some of the reviews...
Read moreWe purchased a Loveseat theater seat, Head and footboard along with 2 bedside tables on October 28th of 2021. Gail was very helpful and pleasant to work with at the time. When our furniture was delivered on November 18th we received a damaged headboard and a small tear was noted on the back of our theater seat through the leather. We were also missing one of our nightstands. We called the next day to find out what they would be doing for the damaged items and when we would be receiving our missing nightstand. We were told that it would be sometime in December that they would be delivered that they are in a shipping container out of port. The tear in the theater seat would be addressed by a man Ken Harrison that covers all of Florida to see if it could be repaired or not. That he would contact us regarding. Not heard anything and called them December 3rd. The owner told us he would call us back on Monday to let us know the status of the repair and when we can expect the furniture that is paid for and still not received. Not received any call from them and we called them on December 17th. Spoke to the gentleman owner and we’re now rudely told it would be sometime after January 1st and will contact the man regarding the loveseat repair still never receiving any call or email. Stopped into the store on January 5th and Gail called someone regarding the headboard and nightstand and were told it was expected to be delivered to a Texas warehouse on January 10th and she will call us on January 18th for an update. We asked her to please just someone call us out of courtesy to let us know where our furniture is. She assured us she would. We stopped at the store later afternoon on the 18th since we hadn’t received a call yet. The owner started yelling at my husband telling us they had no control over the delivery of our furniture owed to us. Gail called and spoke to someone and told her that it would be another week or so because of the snowstorms and trucking issues. We asked for our money back on the nightstand and they returned it. Promised us an email for Ken Harrison regarding the repair of our damaged theater seat and still have not received one . We have never dealt with anyone so rude and misleading with purchasing furniture ever. We were never told that they didn’t have the nightstand in stock the day we purchased it and paid in full for. The owner also commented that we only spent over $4000.00 and he has people that spend over 30,000.00. 4200.00 may not be much to some but it Is a good amount when you are a retired couple now living on SS. Do you think we’ll ever hear about our damaged Theater seat to be repaired? Or the replacement of our cracked headboard? Also we called Cottage Creek maker of the bedroom furniture and spoke to a woman there regarding the headboard and nightstand. She was busy and called us back and informed us that it was still out in port in a shipping container. Never, ever have we gotten so much misleading information regarding a purchase. Buyers beware of who you’re dealing...
Read moreMy mother bought a dinning room table and chairs set. She paid in FULL...was told that it would be delivered the upcoming Sunday after purchase. She was told the day of purchase that someone would contact her to set up a time for Sunday delivery, on Sunday she reached out in the morning, because no one had called her to set up a time and was told they were running late because of weather, hours went by, never heard another thing, my mom reached out again in the afternoon and the owner said, they might get to it today, and my mom said let's confirm (I'm not getting my dinning room set today?) And she never hear anything ever again from him. The next day (Monday) at that point my mom didn't want the items any longer and called the store to ask to cancel and get her money back. It has been 3 weeks and she still hasn't received her money back....the owner (DOUG) texted my mother yesterday that she better take down her bad review or else he was going to get his attorney involved!?! What the heck! How rude and unprofessional! I would highly NOT recommend this business to anyone! If the owner doesn't want bad reviews...then he shouldn't be running a shady business!! If you tell a customer a delivery date, then show up or atleast keep better communication with people. Customers shouldn't have to reach out to the owner to ask what's going on....a good business man would make sure the customer that is spending $$$ knows clearly what is going on. And to threaten people with attorney's and keeping money that doesn't belong to you is unacceptable! I will tell everyone in Marion county what is going on at your store!! Freedom of speech! Do what's right and give my mother her money back. She didn't get the items so you dont get her money,...
