The shop does what it can to ensure it is a safe space. A few years back some friends and I were being followed and harassed by a guy after the first youth pride. We were with a display for WCC so we were all younger people who were visibly queer, so you can imagine just how scary it was. They told us that we could stay there until we felt safe and as we waited for police (who never showed). I will never forget that kindness and the beacon of safety that Wink Wink gave us.
With the repeal of Roe the owner spoke at City Hall. It was powerful and I wanted to let her know that I still think of that day and kindness. She told me that she remembered that incident and went to the police herself to ask what went wrong and why the harassment of queer 17-20 year olds wasn't taken seriously.
