Okay, so I needed a minute to recoup from my experience on Saturday at The Braid Bar before posting this post. This was honestly, by far, the worst braiding experience I've ever had. And just like I told one of the stylist, I'll never go back. My day started with me wanting to have a mother/ daughter day at the salon and was supposed to end with a dinner date with my husband at 7:30pm; however, things didn't go as planned. We got to the Braid Bar at 10 a.m. and signed in on both the kids and adult clipboards and had a seat upfront as instructed. 2 hours later, the front desk clerk told me to go to the kids room because that's where they were going to do my baby's hair, but this was only after she'd already sent a few other people back there. As instructed, I went into the kids room and one of the two stylist immediately pointed out that she noticed that we'd already been there. I explained to her that it was my first time and I wasn't aware of a kids room and was sitting in the front where I was instructed to sit. About 45 minutes later, I was asked to follow a young lady that was to be my stylist. Before leaving the kids room, I confirmed that they knew how I wanted my baby's hair and was ensured that she was next. "Okay cool", I said. Well, needless to say, after making it through the struggle of getting my hair done (the girl had no clue of how to do my hair so I just settled for something that I felt she couldn't mess up), I returned to the kids room only to learn that they hadn't started on my daughter's hair and every chair was full with a child. I WAS LIVID AND I MADE SURE THEY KNEW IT! I called my baby to leave, but the sad look in her eyes tugged at my heart strings. One of the stylists said I can go ahead and get her now and we're sorry. Sorry??? I wanted to say a few choice words but y'all know I don't show out in front of my baby, or anybody else's child for that matter. So, I went ahead and allowed her to start at approximately 1:45 p.m. at this point! If I'd known that the young lady that was braiding her hair had to stop several times to deal with her child that she decided to bring to work, on what I'm sure is one of their busiest days, I would've continued to wait for someone else. When we finally got out of that hell whole at 9:40 p.m., YES, I had to cancel the reservations for my husband and I, I vowed to never return. I also vowed to make sure I use every avenue to tell others to never, ever go to this place. Yes, it's the Braid Bar on Columbia Drive in Decatur! STAY AWAY! GO AT YOUR OWN RISK! You can go if you like, but don't say you wasn't warned, and if you do go and it's still cold outside, be prepared to need ear muffs, snow boots, leg warmers, gloves, and a trench coat, cause they don't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHorrible customer service! MY BRAIDER WAS JASS WAY. Long story short...I booked and paid deposit online A WEEK in advance for a Friday at 9am. Mind you, this was for my 30th bday celebration. At 450am, my braider text me saying that she needed to push the appt back an hour because she was just finishing another client. I knew this was far from the truth. Why would you inconvenience yourself that way. If in fact she was doing hair, she had to have known that whatever hairstyle was being done would last all night. I believe she went out to the club or had something else going on but I complied bc I really didn't have a choice. It was so last minute and I had no backup option. I get to the shop before my braider. Once she arrives, she does not immediately start. She played with babies and talked to other stylists. Once she finally started, she walked off with no reason as to why multiple times and would be gone for 10 mins or so. I booked for one price and even left a tip that was non deserving. While standing outside waiting for my husband to pick me up ( he was out running errands for my party and had to be rerouted 3 times due to not being finished on time) my braider called and said that I had not paid her enough money and that I owed her 40 more dollars. I had no issue paying but told her that should have been communicated before I physically left the building, preferably while she was doing my hair, if the price was gonna be different. Fast forward to the next day, I wake up and one of my twists had come out. I hadn't manipulated or styled my hair at all. Even if I did LESS than 24 hours had gone by and this was now unacceptable to me. I wrote them on FB. No response. So I contacted them on IG to let them know everything that occurred. Someone (not the owner) contacted me and had my braider to call me. When she called, she was speaking to me as if we already knew each other. Just said hey and didn't give any reason for the call. No apology. Very nonchalant about the situation. She said that she would fix my twist. Well I wasnt gonna drive all the way to Decatur for one braid and I also would have had to buy an entire pack of hair. I called back to cancel the appt and to see if they could just pay me back the difference of the overpayment. The lady at the front desk left me on hold for over 15 mins and never returned the phone call. The customer service here is horrible. No seems to care about the customer as long as they getting their money. MYBRAIDER WAS JASS WAY. I do not recommend booking her because she is very unprofessional. She showed up in a crop top showing most of her stomach and shorts showing her butt and walked...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSCHEDULING- I had an appointment at the Decatur location on 3/1/20. I scheduled the appointment very last minute but surprisingly there was a Sunday appt available. Scheduling was easy through the mobile site. I couldn't really get the app to work. I got a confirmation email and paid the deposit thru PayPal. Later, I DM my stylist on IG to ask about the hair. She responded within a few hours, still timely enough for me to secure the right hair before my appointment.
FACILITY- The location is about a 2hr drive from me. It's in Decatur but not in a congested area. GPS took me right to it. I already knew roughly where it was located due to living in Stone Mtn. a few years ago. Parking is onsite. The salon is a big open space. Lots of colors and fun looking. Tv's, restrooms around the corner, no loud music. However, because the space was so big, it stayed so so so cold! Our noses were running and all. *Virtually, that is the only reason this rating is 4 star instead of 5.
STYLIST- I booked with Tiara. She texted me the day before to ask if i would like to come earlier. Appt was at 9, rescheduled for 7:30. I had a bit of a drive so I was gonna be late. She was very flexible with this... I arrived at 8. She got started right away. We arrived at the same time. No wait! She was courteous and just all around sweet! I did bring the wrong hair... She offered to do another style for me or would attempt with the hair I brought. She knew what hair would behave a certain way... whether RUWA, Expressions, etc. We did attempt with the hair I had and it worked out perfectly. She didn't take any breaks, no back and forth on the phone, none of that. She was focused and efficient. I have terribly thick hair, but she was patient and still finished before her next scheduled appt. Also, another client was there whose stylist was running late. Tiara, did not make any bad mentions about the stylist but just reassured the customer that the stylist should be on the way. (Generally, you will find that people who work in similar establishments will talk bad about each other or try to steal clients. So I thought that was very polite of her.) All other stylists in the building also greeted everyone with Good Mornings and such.
STYLE- I am extremely tender-headed, so any style will feel tight to me. The style was tight but definitely not uncomfortable. Today is the next day and I'm already feeling relieved. I got Medium twists- midback. The twists are knotless so they look more natural. Not heavy or bulky. And whatever edge control she used still has my edges in place from yesterday. (I did not wear my satin bonnet last night.) Lots of compliments already! I...
