The items are great and the quality and are better then other stores like Art Van. Quality for the most part is just a tad better then Pottery Barn (But you pay for it).
We have placed a couple of orders for chairs, couches, mirrors, pictures etc. Customer service loves to deliver the positive answer about orders, but they do not come through very often on delivery. Shipping time is slow and never delivered on time...I am not talking about waiting a week or two from the expect delivery date either.
I am 3 months plus the date I was told an item was to be delivered waiting for a desk chair *and no it was not a custom order. I did finally receive the item (griffith desk chair) but it came with a rip in the top of the leather which could have been just unnoticed by a delivery person, but surely not someone that did inspections, if they have that as one of their protocols.
The chair also came with a not saying this chair has been sitting in a warehouse for some time now, so we have included furniture chair wipes to get rid of the dust. This note was somewhat nice at the same time rude. It was nicely to include the wipes, but on the other hand I was also thinking should furniture of this price or any price arrive dirty? Orders have arrive damaged heavily, not just scratches. Our Ping Pong Table arrived and it looked it had been dropped from a rooftop. It was still able to set up and played just not sturdy, RH allowed us to keep the item until a new one arrived. (this was definitely nice of them).
We just placed another order for sofas, chairs, tables, etc and I am banging my head against the wall for why in the heck I decided to go through this process again. I called customer service and they told me that this particular store did not know how to place my order. I was using a coupon, but it was just a coupon and the personal at the Troy store was not very helpful. I did place an order of close to $10,000 and done so in the past as well.
We are close to our last and final order with this company (please remind me that I said that). The furniture is great quality but the process is not at all close to other companies when it comes to service and delivery.
Art Van is not the best quality, but they have their staff well trained to call, service, and deliver the product, and keep in contact with the customer all the way through the process. I do think an executive from Art Van or any big box company could help RH with their logistics and communications. Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel seem to have the delivery process down as well.
I believe the biggest issue with RH is they ship a lot of items from China and some items are sold before they have enough product on hand to deliver. So it becomes a supply and demand issue.
If you want to save yourself some time do not order from Restoration Hardware until the reviews start getting better with shipping. If you want great quality furniture and do not care about the price or the amount of time that it will take do deliver then order from RH. For us we are up in the air as we like the look but do not want to deal with waiting for back order after back order.
On the other hand if something does arrive damaged the company seems to have a no questions asked policy. Which does give you peace of mind in placing an order in hopes that you will get what you pay for (when ever it does happen to arrive).
Customer Service phone number has tried to be helpful, the people in the Troy store are hit or miss, with some being arrogant and unknowing, others being helpful and considerate. Way too much of a hassle to order furniture when it is all said and done. We will try and find somewhere...
Read moreI ordered 4 dining chairs in mid-November 2012. When I placed my order, RH required that I have them shipped to my house, as opposed to picking them up from the store.
Since November 2012, I've suffered through SEVEN back-and-forth shipments and still only have three out of four chairs in my possession. (It is now May 18, 2013). I've been forced to return the other chairs due to a variety of reasons including scratched finish; incorrect finish; broken legs; splintered, gouged, and/or cracked wood. Furthermore, this company has sent me the wrong chairs and has overcharged me during various transactions regarding the return and shipment of these chairs. - I recently wrote the company (again) to see when I'd be receiving my 8th shipment. I received a curt correspondence saying that it would not be shipped until late July 2013.
Customer service was initially polite, but unhelpful: They are all talk, but no action. Now, my 'special customer service representative,' is ignoring my correspondences. After the third return, all of the customer service representatives told me that I'd be compensated for my trouble. That was a total lie.
Regardless of how cool the furniture looks, it is NOT worth your time, money and hassle to order from this company. Not only have I wasted money on the cost of the chairs, through this process I've had to take off seven days of work just so that I could be here to receive these chairs.
And, yes, I'm still waiting on the fourth chair, which will be my...

The quality of merchandise is sub-Walmart level -I purchased two bathroom medicine cabinets at $1000 for the pair for two bathroom remodels. The welds on them alone are so poor that they should not have left the factory- the entirety of construction is absolutely terrible on both. The paint is just a memory of a whisper of a coat of paint so I am sure that humidity in the bathroom will have them rusted quickly. That's a shame as they are very nice looking (from a distance) and constructed of very heavy duty materials that would last a lifetime. The medicine cabinets honestly look like they were made by an untalented amateur - and that was not the look they were going for.
Restoration Hardware is an online retailer to be avoided - the prices and marketing image RH has created make one think the merchandise is top quality but the things they sell would not even make it to an outlet store for any other retailer.
