I used State and Liberty to provide custom suits for my wedding, and the entire experience—from initial consultation through final delivery—was extremely disappointing and stressful. For a company that presents itself as a premium, professional menswear provider, their lack of communication, internal coordination, and quality control was unacceptable. The process began with a required $50 consultation fee. The initial phone call was vague and unproductive. The representative failed to clearly explain the pricing tiers, and many of my questions were dismissed and deferred to a later call with a stylist. This created confusion and set the tone for what would be an increasingly frustrating process. I spent hours carefully filling out detailed online forms for each man in our wedding party—over eight individuals, including groomsmen, the officiant, uncles, and both fathers of the bride and groom. Despite this preparation, there was a serious disconnect between what I submitted online, the conversations I had with staff, and what happened in-store. Because my fiancé and I live in Nashville and most of the wedding party lives in Michigan, fittings occurred at different State and Liberty store locations. When the Michigan-based members went for fittings, they were met with confusion and conflicting information. Staff often didn’t know which suit color or style was intended, even though everything had been documented in advance. The disorganization between departments—online submissions, customer service, and in-store teams—was glaring. The most egregious issue, however, came later in the process. Without any prior communication, we discovered that the manufacturer and distributor had changed mid-production. As a result, every suit arrived in the wrong color blue and completely different fabric then we had picked out many months prior. This massive oversight caused unnecessary panic and left us scrambling close to the wedding date. At no point were we informed about the production changes until I went in person to see the suits and realized how wrong the color was! This is a basic level of transparency that one would expect when dealing with custom formalwear for such an important event. For a company that claims to specialize in custom, luxury suits, State and Liberty fell far short of even basic expectations. Their service caused significant stress during what should have been a joyful and celebratory time. I would strongly advise any couples or clients planning for a major event to look elsewhere for a more reliable and professional experience.
Update: the company reached out to assist in making things right for the difficulties we went through the last...
Read moreI got my wedding suits through state and liberty. The process was simple, accommodating, and fun. A simple chat with anyone in the store can get you started. Then you can start trying on different suits/tuxes to see what you like. They even have some beverages if interested. I went in with my best man and we had a great time. There's no pressure to do anything either - very friendly staff. I had the pleasure of working with Anna. She was fantastic and made my experience. Afterward, they discuss timelines and get some information in the system. They'll send out some email to get contact info for the rest of the members of your party and will send out reminders for deadlines. There are a few different tailoring options and each person in the wedding party can choose a different one depending on if they need it or not. They also have some ability to swap button colors, choose pocket styles, and change the interior color/design. We didn't do shoes through them, so I can't talk about that. With the wedding party we got our custom suits at a discounted rate. I also got another free custom suit as the groom. The suits/tuxes are so nice and made with high quality. I highly recommend their product. I can squat down ATG and they stretch with you (very hard to find). I still go back after my wedding to get different shirts/pants when they come out. I don't go anywhere else for my dress...
Read moreThe clothes seem really nice, which is why I give this review 2-stars because maybe the clothes make up for the customer service at this location.
Be careful what you might be charged and check the online store if you want something and they claim to not have it. I went in yesterday looking for the Field jacket and the young lady told me the jacket is $350. I asked her if that was correct, I was in a couple weeks back and the guy that spoke to me that day said $250. She goes on to say, no, always been $350, I must have looked at the Bomber jacket. These two jackets could not be more different and no way a confusion in which one I saw earlier. I ended up walking out.
When I got home I went online and saw the jacket is $250, plus the short sleeve shirt I had asked about, the one where she said that style is no longer sold, yup, you guessed it, still sold online.
Now need to decide if I should order and give them...
