Exploring Greater Detroit | Birmingham Food & Drink Guide (Part 2)

Was looking for a new place to grab a quick snack before going to the movies, and Sidecar Slider Bar did not disappoint! We stuck to the shareable menu because we planned on eating a ridiculous amount of popcorn, and the items we picked were amazing! We went with the waffle truffle parmesan fries, roasted balsamic and blue cheese Brussel sprouts, and southwest egg rolls. The truffle fries were absolutely hands down the best parmesan truffle fries I have had, and I have had them at a few different establishments. They were hot, fresh, big, and I loved that they were tossed in a truffle oil AND covered with a parmesan truffle sauce instead of just a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. The Brussel sprouts were really good. They also come with bacon, but we aren't pork eaters, so we ordered them without, but they were still awesome! The balsamic and blue cheese crumble complimented the crispy Brussel sprouts well. Last but not least , the southwest egg rolls. They came with a side of sour cream and a zesty spicy ranch type dressing. They were great, stuffed with the perfect amount of black beans, corn, chicken, cheese, and spices. When they say shareable, they mean it because those three dishes had the two of us extremely full and needing a brisk walk before heading to the movies to fill up on movie theater treats! In all, it was a great new restaurant experience that I will definitely return to have. The wait staff was awesome, and the place was clean, and the vibes were great. Kind of a sports bar meets family hang out spot! Check out Side Car Slider Bar next time you are in downtown Birmingham, MI.

This was our first time at Sidecar Slider Bar, and it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We ended up overeating because there were many options that sounded amazing. We started with the pretzel bites, and they were bar far the best pretzel bites we have ever had. They looked like they were going to be crunchy, but they were super soft on the inside. The sliders were a decent size, and the burger was juicy. I wish I was able to eat more because there were others I wanted to try. The only negative was the noise. It was very loud and somewhat hard to communicate. It is not a large section, so the music and talking definitely resonates. We will definitely be back to try more of the slider options.

Most horrific manager.I've been a customer of this establishment since they opened, I even had them cater to my office luncheon. Not that there food is the best(to me), I like the variety of the menu and I favor their sides over the sliders. A few weeks ago I placed a carry out order of 2 items, it all went great. Upon picking my order(1 small chili cheese fries and 1 small order of chili and a side of Jalapenos). I get there after a few minutes he asked if "did you want banana peppers or jalapenos", I told him I wanted "jalapeno but I'll take both",(he brought banana and I didn't want him running back & forth). He brought out my order of a bowl of chili and and a container fries(not so warm fries at that). I informed the him that I wanted chili cheese fries and also asked for crackers for the chili. He unpleasantly informed that he repeated my order, I said okay small chili cheese fries and 1 small order of chili Sidenote: I'm on my lunch and don't have time for the back & forth. The wait was already too long (10+ minutes)especially being that I called in my order 20 minutes prior to my arrival. He snatched my order off the counter, I was trying to tell him that he could just bring me chili/cheese he ignored me and slammed the food into the garbage can. Sidenote: I thought to myself is he really this angry. Heck its was an easy fix would've been to either being me an order of chili cheese fries or just chili for the not so warm fries I received. I maintained a smile and pleasant tone.(normally I'd snap crack & pop, but I needed this to go expeditiously). He brought back the order chili cheese fries and chili and slammed it on the counter, minus the jalapenos, chili all over the outside of the Styrofoam bowl and no bag(really). I said "excuse me", he ignored me and tended to other customers. When he passed me again, I said "excuse me. "3 things, can I have this wiped off, there's no jalapenos and do you have crackers" and he cut me off snapped and said "we don't have crackers", I said "okay can I have some jalapenos", He said" it doesn't come with jalapenos". I said "I know that is why I asked for a side of them". I said "well I misunderstood you and you misunderstood me" (me playing nice I took some of the blame off of him, actually I didn't misunderstand him, I was clear in my order and he repeated my order as such). He snatched my order of the counter. I said can I see the manager and abrasively said, "I am the manage"r, I said "can I see the owner", he abrasively said "I am the owner". I said "can I have a refund". He said "you weren't charged". I said "you ran my card". He said "your receipt is right there (showing me my signed copy for me to take). I said "okay" and left out. Well clearly he is a liar #1 I was charged and had to have it reversed, #2 he wasn't the owner. It took everything in me not to tell my son or my guy about my experience because they would've wanted to check out his customer service skills. To be treated so nasty while maintain a pleasant composure was a test of my character. That boy (NO MAN ACTS LIKE THIS)was rude and so aggressive that if I wasn't a woman that grew up in the hood, an used to ignorance and aggressiveness, then I would've certainly felt threatened. I even suggested to the owner that if he has a video that he could see his aggressive behavior. All for what? because he got the order wrong and would've been a simple fix. The manager name I forgot, It was Latin named and he was a tall solid African American male. FYI, I'm giving a description for whoever frequents there they can maybe a name with a face. He is a bully, too stand over a 4'10 small framed woman, snatching things, standing over me and speak to me in an angry tone, had me to consider asking and attorney at work how to approach this. This might be unacceptable in the streets, however it is not acceptable in a place of business towards a consumer and a polite and patient consumer none the less. Shame on Sidecar/ Rojo for who they have to...

CARRYOUT REVIEW: As a Birmingham local I have tried all the hotspots in Birmingham. Tonight was a major disappointment as we ordered carry out but a couple items were missing which is very annoying but glad we checked so we went back in to get them. I WISH I took a picture because when my SO came back with it and we checked it…. The two hotdogs looked like someone dropped them and then put them back in the box. They were stacked, messy, the bread is covered in sauce. No one would open it and be happy to eat it is where I’m getting at. So we go back inside AGAIN! Major annoyed at this point because I was hungry but now I’m not as it’s a hotdog and yet you mess it up.

I ask to speak to the manager as this presentation is unacceptable! Gabby was NOT very pleasant with no hospitality and seemed like she could care less that there is a issue. when I showed her this is how I received it she just looked at me “so do you want us to remake it” ummm well would you eat this when you can’t even make out what it is that you ordered?

Thank goodness for their host, Alexis! She was the only kind person with amazing hospitality which is very important as that’s the first face you see when you walk in. I will say I did wait rather long time for 2 hot dogs and it wasn’t busy as I’ve seen sidecar busier. Alexis went to go check and the food was ready… the manager, Gabby, did not even bring it when it was ready? I was surprised to find Gabby the manager as that made the whole experience worse to know who it’s being managed by to be honest.

If I could’ve gave tonight 0 stars I would but honestly this place gets the 1 star because the host, Alexis, was the only pleasant thing in the...
